Feel like killing myself. Everything that could go wrong did. I was doing fine in the class until I bombed the test before the final and dropped my grade 8% (calc 2). Studied my ass off for the Final and somehow bombed that too and ended up with a D in the class. I'm going in to talk to the professor to see what happened but I doubt he'll cut me any slack.

So now what? Is an entire year of my life just going to be wasted? What the hell am I supposed to do now? I can take some classes at my CC that I would have taken at UCR but I'll still be behind. Is there anything I can do to still stay on track?

Did you talk to someone at admissions yet? Sometimes UCR can be somewhat lenient so you need to speak with someone about your situation and express that you’re willing to retake the class over the summer. It’s worth a shot.

If you do get rescinded, don’t stress out so much. You can continue at your CC and take any other classes you might not have completed. You said in another post that you were a bio major… have you taken Ochem? Completed your Physics series? All the rest of your pre-reqs? UCR has a weird ethnic studies general education requirement also and I think they might have a world history requirement. Don’t think about it as being a year behind, it’s a year to improve your grades, retake your Calc 2 D and get academic renewal. You can apply to UCR again and as long as your GPA remains the same (if not improving), you will probably be accepted again. If you have over a 3.0, also consider TAG at another school. Good luck.

Yup I did. She said they require you to finish three year long sequences and since I didn’t pass Calc II I came up short on the 3rd one. I asked her about retaking it in summer and she said the requirements have to be finished by Spring but that if I decided to retake it in the summer that she could ask someone to review it and see if that would help. I’m doubtful though. god I feel like throwing up, this ing ** always happens to me.

After the edit*

The problem is that this was my 3rd year at CC. Spending a 4th year at CC…my parents will probably disown me lol.

Do you know if there is a way to take upper division courses simultaneously (like biochem, micro, or anything upper division) so that I at least don’t fall too far behind? And I pretty much just need Physics and one bio class. I was going to take them at UCR anyway but the problem is I’m worried about the Spring semester where all I will need is the second semester of Physics. If I was at UCR I could have been taking my upper division by then.

A few schools offer Spring/Winter admissions, I know that Merced is one of them. If worse comes to worst, you can send out an application to them in July. You’d be taking only one class during the Fall, but it will get you into a UC in January of 2012 rather than September of 2012, 8 whole months earlier. The deadline for Merced’s TAG is July 1st so if you know you’re not getting in, you need to start soon.

The problem is unit caps. You are taking classes a 4 year and might be considered a senior if you reapply with 4 year credits.

Also I wouldn’t worry about getting started… Once you transfer you have to take 75 quarter units regardless. This is because you can only transfer a maximum of 105 and need 180 minimum to graduate. 75 units takes how many quarters? If you take 20 per quarter than 4. But 20 units is a lot and I doubt you can hack it. So most likely you will take 6 quarters (2 years) regardless.

Merced is a cheap area with studios at 500-600 a month and shared places in the 200-400 range. When you factor a delay of graduation, and thus a delay in entrance into the job market, it’s likely worth it to bite the bullet at least economically if that is your concern.

Well, your situation does suck… but I would try not to focus on how long it’s going to take you to finish college. I just said this in another post but I wasted a year at a 4 yr OOS school, then spent 3 years at my CC, and I now have 2 more years at my UC to graduate. 6 year plan ftw.

Take what you can still take at your CC. I wouldn’t recommend taking any more than maybe 10 units at ANY 4 year school before transferring. Actually, I would recommend 0. Get a job if you extra time. Apply again to UCR next year (I’d also apply to UCI if you have a 3.0 and can TAG it) and maybe some nearby CSU’s just in case those don’t work out (maybe Fullerton?). If your parents are sincerely that angry, maybe it’s time to start finding a new place to live. You’re what… 20/21 at least?

Yeah I’ve pretty much accepted the consequences at this point. The thing that really bugs me is actually that I failed the final. I usually clutch it at the end when I know I’m about to eat **** and I studied my ass off for it. Didn’t help. Now I just feel stupid.

Did you ask about an alternate major .
I had to do 3 years at CC( for the record i didn’t start my first year until I got laid off midway though fall) since the UC’s cut spring admission .
IF you really need to transfer you can always call up CSUN and ask them if you can just apply and start this fall.
This actually isn’t a bad idea if your going to grad school anyway .

BTW I had a question. If I decided to retake the Calc II course at UCR this summer, would that count toward the senior credit thing? I can’t take it at my CC since that class pretty much filled up in a few days and I’m on the waitlist, doubt I’ll get in.

Will my admission be rescindered by ucla, If I only have one A and 3 Bs for Spring? Most classes are major related, I am engineering major. It says to maintain my gpa in my admission contract , did I failed to maintain? My gpa dropped quite a bit, was 3.88 when i applied, now it might be 3.7ish only.

It sounds like you were doing well in Calc 2 until the dreaded “Infinite Series”. Is that where you took a dive?

You can look into taking the class online. UC Berkeley Extension offers online Calculus II and it’s self-paced, so you could conceivably finish it quickly (if you talk to the instructor about it first). The only drawback is it’s kind of pricey at around $750.

Believe it or not I did okay up to that point. it was when we got to the Polar coordinates section that I completely bombed the course. I didn’t spend enough time studying that section and got a much lower grade on the test than I expected. Still hating myself for that considering it was no where near the hardest section of the course.

Well I thought I would be fine. I studied hard for the Final and I walked out of it thinking I did great on it. I really think he graded it harder than all the other exams because there were exams where I put complete and utter BS and still got a C. This one I actually put down legitimate work and failed it. Guess I’ll find out why when I go in to talk to the professor next week.

Littleduck- Attend the Calc 2 summer session class unofficially until students start to drop then you can officially get on the roster.
Be patient, bro, you need the class to go to UCR this fall.
