Wellesley ED 2013

Hello everybody,

I just wanted to make a thread as a sorta get-together place for those who are sure or almost sure they'll be applying ED to Wellesley for the class of 2013.

Who are you? Where are you from? Dare I ask... why Wellesley? ;)

My name's Bailey, I'm from New York and maybe I'll post my "why Wellesley" essay at some point, haha.

Good luck :)

oh yay~
i'm just cyber stalking you everywhere...

Are you from New York, New York?

i'm Yi Ling, from Michigan, and why Wellesley....
hm... i could probably go on and on about the list of reasons.
the biggest catalyses are probably:
1. the financial aid part
2. the internships and study abroad opportunities
3. great location/close to boston and such
4. the Wellesley/MIT exchange
5. i'm a bit of a feminist...so....

class of 2013?!

crap, i'm getting old.

sorry, ringer.. you must feel ancient. :)

Nope, I'm from Long Island--a barrier beach on the southern coast of LI, to be exact.

Unless something drastically changes in the next month (there's one particular personal factor that has about a 40% chance of drastically changing) I'll apply ED. I hope it all works out. :)

Rev, maybe it's that we're young, and you're not old? Isn't that a nicer way to think of it?

You just made this class of '07 grad feel older than God.

ha, what's so bad about being "old"?
(not implying that you're old of course ^.^)
with age comes wisdom, experience, and intellect.

and besides, you're just about 5 years closer than us to grabbing that retirement pension and traveling the world

i don't know anybody under 30 who has their "path" in life entirely figured out. heck, most are still switching industries, cities, SOs and the like. Maybe by the time you potential 2013ers graduate, I'll be a bit closer to making those important decisions.

I will tell you this though, it isn't always true what they say, that your college years are the best years of your life. I mean, I absolutely loved Wellesley, but having some disposable income and a job that ends at 5pm is pretty nice, too.

Amen to that!

And, to be honest, I don't know many people in their 30s who have their life-paths settled. Then again, I'm in a profession that's popular as a second career ... it influences the temperaments (and ages) of people I know ;)

I heard a statistic once (not citing a credible source here, unfortunately) that people switch careers 7 times in a lifetime on average. Not jobs, but careers. That's a pretty amazing thing to consider. You may still have 5 careers ahead of you...

Hi there! To go back to the OP-I am applying to Wellesley ED this fall. I have my interview in 2 weeks and am so excited! I will be in the Boston area interviewing and visiting for 5 days and Wellesley is my finial interview so I will be fully ready! I am so excied!!!
Hm-Why Wellesley?
Ack-so many reasons!
-FA
-Study Abroad
-The scream tunnel for the Boston Marthon :p
-Research with professors at undergrad level
-SPECTULAR campus
and too many more-oh lord I'm so excited....and nervous!

I'm still getting ready to go to Wellesley, but ugh even I feel old.

Oh well. My hopes are that I can get a job in the admissions office, so maybe I'll get to see your applications around. :) Maybe not, but it'd sure be exciting!

that's awsome! you got in!!!!

o yea...question, are you allowed to work if you're international student?
i think i remember that a special visa's required?

I'm sorry I can't say for sure, but I would pop that question to the next alum or admissions officer. I am assuming that you would need some special working license to enable you to work in MA in general.

dai17yi, if you are an international student, most likely you will be issued an F-1 student visa. Here is a helpful website:
Student Visas

And check this very useful website created just for international students coming to study in the US:
International Students – EducationUSA

I know that the international F-1 grad. students I went to grad school with were able to work on campus as teaching or research assistants.

I just visited & interviewed at Wellesley, and I guess that's when I figured out I wanted to apply ED. It was always pretty high on my list, but I thought that Brown would be the college for me. Brown really wasn't that good of a fit -- it seems cool, but the Ivies are too big and impersonal for me. I've definitely got my heart set on Wellesley :)

Ohh-whedongirl I hope you get in! How was the interview? Nerve racking or more calm? Ek-I can't wait to see the campus!

The campus is unbelievable! It sealed the deal for me. Even the air is superior to other air. I didn't want to leave--when it was time to go I kept on making up reasons to stick around...

Hehe-yeah-it is my last interview on Friday, so I have the whole afternoon set aside!

Hahah I want to go back! It was raining during my tour so we sort of got an abbreviated version. There was only one other girl there for the tour and neither of us minded if she didn't show us any of the science buildings, but still, I wish I could have extended the thing.

Oh I hope it does not rain!! But I think that even if it does-I won't care! What was the interview like?
