Wellesley RD........

Actually, my D got a note saying they were missing a form, which had already been sent to IDOC but they just didn't see it. Of course all along the IDOC report said they had everything they required. We cleared that up on Tuesday and they said they'd call the next day. Still waiting but hearing how some of you folk fared has me a bit worried, quite frankly. It's one thing to apply wondering if you're qualified to get in, but to get accepted only to find out your parents can't afford to send you once you do get in is just a shame. Trust me, your parents feel as sad as you do. I just wish we'd find out and get it over with. At this point I might have preferred a rejection to this kind of disappointment. I'll try and be optimistic!

Camelia, I really hope that Wellesley reevaluates their package for you so that you can have the opportunity to attend. However, I recall from their financial aid literature that they expect students to contribute to their education as well, and so I think that they offer pretty much everyone a work study job. So even if they do get closer, you are probably going to be offered a job as part of it. Of course, you don't have to take the job if you can come up with the money, but that's an extra $2000-$3000 to come up with.

With my acceptance, they sent a letter saying they hadn't yet reviewed my financial information and would send my offer "under separate cover." Today it came.

..unfortunately.
(and, yes, I think I almost would have preferred a rejection..this is so upsetting.)

advantagious - no, Dartmouth expected me to work as well, and I absolutely plan to, but they counted it as a "student contribution" to the EFC instead of actual financial aid; the financial aid package itself was made up of a large grant and a very small loan (compared to Wellesley's very small grant, small loan, and work-study). It was just a more generous distribution in general.

Ahh, I see. I understood that Wellesley's current finaid package was crappy and Dartmouth's was decent.

Possibly your parents appear to have usuable assests that they do not, in fact, have? I really can't imagine why there would be such a large gap in finaid...hopefully they reevaluate for you, although to be frank I don't know that I have ever heard of the substantial kind of increase that you would need :(.

I'm probably going to fax over the two other schools' financial aid packages next week just to see what they make of it, and maybe a letter from my parents. I don't know that it'll make a difference, but it's worth a try. :)

It is comforting to know that the Wellesley Fin Aid office is not only tripping on D's application. They say a tax form is missing which I have never filed for my S-Corp for my NEVER part-time solo law practice since I run the S-Corp taxes through my 1040 which I IRS has allowed me to do for many years, which is one of the benefits of an S-Corp for small businesses. However,Wellesley insist on getting a corporate tax filing out of me since they believe it absolutely required by the IRS. This is the only college out of 13 to which D applied which has indictated a problem, all others have sent D's fin aid package. What make this so crazy is that I am a very active alum. Wellesley was on D's short list of five colleges, well now it will be between Wash U, Yale and Swarthmore all of which have been generous. Hate to say that my college is tripping big time and I don't have the energy to argue with them. Good luck to all those who are set on going to Wellesley.

In fact I just remembered another alumna whose D is now at Harvard stating that Wellesley's package offered $20K less than Harvard. Very interesting, I wonder if Wellesley is having financial difficulties? And yes, lack of adequate financial aid is tantamount to a rejection in my book. This is in stark contrast to the generousity Wellesley showed me a generation ago, it was awesome and I still feel blessed by the experience and will always be greatful. This new paradime is odd and heartbreaking for the class of 2011 middle income families.

Leah I hear you, I almost would've preferred a rejection too. It's like a slap in the face, why accept someone when you don't give them enough money so they can actually go?

What's really weird is they offered to pay for my trip (plane ticket) to spring open campus but then my financial aid package was scanty... I don't understand--if they're offering to pay for my flight for SOC then should my financial aid package be good to?

Anyway, I'm making an appointment with the financial aid office.

Thats to bad for everyone who got a bad finaid package.
Mine was very generous
EFC was $5,500

ok, my frd from China has gotten her acceptance decision online at the Wellesley banner thingy, but the thing is, she still hasn't received her official package yet.... does anyone have any idea whether or not Wellesley only sends some packages to internationals through UPS and others through snail mail? this is so weird....

what if the notification on the online account was a mistake?

and BTW, do ALL internationals get Wellesley acceptance packages through UPS/DHL/FedEx? Thanks.

Still nothing for me, I live in the states and was an EE likely. Other people in my area received their letters a week ago.

^can someone PLEASE ANSWER my question? thanks.

Same here, I live in the states and was an EE likely. But yesterday I got an e-mail and it said something like "Congratulations! Now that you've been admitted, here's the Class of 2011 website..."

So I'm taking that as an official acceptance.

i would take that as a definite acceptance!!! congrats!!!

hello???? any input?

chill out. it'll get there when it gets there.

Your friend's best bet is to contact the admissions office, who should be able to identify the parcel carrier, the anticipated arrival date, and perhaps the official admission decision. The lack of responses, here, probably means that no one has the information you want--not that they're ignoring your pleas!

Best of luck to her.

It was a tough decision (made easier in part by the financial aid issue), but I've decided to attend Dartmouth. Congrats to all future Wellesley women, and I hope one of the waitlisted applicants gets the chance to attend in my place. :)

I know a girl who attends Dartmouth and she is my Thai friend. :] Hehehe I hope I'll be one lucky rejectee to take your place. >/ This wish is going to take a very very long time. Have a lovely time at Dartmouth! [ o.o I hope I spelt it right]

Okay so I called the ad office and they're resending my acceptance packet. If you still haven't gotten yours yet, I recommend you do the same.

I also called the fin aid office. And it turns out I get ZERO dollars because we're oh so well off.

Has anyone ever successfully appealed and went from zero to say....$20,000?

haha I'm guessing no one's even came close.
