I just got my likely letter!! YES!! I am absolutely in love with Wellesley and am seriously considering going there. A few questions:
1. Has there ever been an instance where a "likely" applicant was rejected?
2. How challenging are the academics??
3. Why is there so much concern with the availability of boys on campus? If dating is that important why would you apply to an all girls school?
4. Do a lot of wellesley students cross register at MIT? Does Wellesley offer high level science classes too?

I can answer #3.

For me, there's a lot of concern about the lack of boys on campus because I LIKE boys. I like having them as friends and boyfriends. The fact that the other sex isn't immediately available to me is a concern. The reason I applied to Wellesley anyway is that I recognize that they're an amazing school, and I may be willing to go the single-sex route, despite my hesitations. I know that a single-sex environment can provide a better educational experience for women, but I'm not so sure it can provide a great social experience. In short, yes, dating is "that important", in that it's certainly a concern (after all, many people meet their future spouses at college, and Wellesley kind of eliminates that option), but it's not so pressing a concern that I'm willing to overlook Wellesley's great aspects.

Hope that helps.

well said elizabeth22! i'm sure that a lot of the girls on this forum feel the same way you do. with this in mind, where is wellesley at on your college list?

Right now, it looks something like this:

Harvard
Tufts-Brandeis-Wellesley (depending on financial aid offers, mainly)
University of Maine Honors Program (cheap...can't be totally overlooked)
Middlebury (Not even sure why I applied...it's definitely not what I want)

Elizabeth22--didn't you do ED to Dartmouth? Not sure why you're not interested in Midd--it's quite similar to Dartmouth...

Yeah, I did do ED to Dartmouth. I'm not sure why it is that I'm not into Middlebury, but it just seemed too small, too remote, and too far from home.

Thank you for your answer!
Another question - I hear about wellesey students going to MIT and Harvard a lot, what do the Harvard and MIT students think about that? Are wellesley students well respected in their campuses? Or do they mainly visit for social purposes?

uhm, ok try this link and it should take you to this livejournal post that covers a bunch of things regarding wellesley including wellesley girls' reputations and "negative aspects of wellesley." the responses are quite interesting, but they are just people's opinions so take them for what they're worth...

thanks rovee!
boys are allowed in the dorms right?
and also, what is wellesley's lacrosse team like?

Boys are allowed in dorms. Overnight, too I think. Max of 3 days w/roomie's permission, I'm pretty sure.

yup, you're right wolfstarlasher, or at least, that's what i read on wellesley's website. oh, and if you want personal web pages of the girls that go to/went to wellesley go to myspace.com and put Wellsley College in as a search.

Congratulations, wellesleygirl!

I was told by an admissions officer that Wellesley girls usually cross-register at MIT for science and architecture/engineering classes

A friend of mine goes to MIT, and he has told me that Wellesley girls dont exactly have the best of reputations there

Note: this is NOT my opinion. I am just repeating what he said. Obviously it does not apply to all wellesley girls, its just sort of the stereotype, I guess. So if you're mad, yell at him, not me.

How so?

What is their reputation?

(Not mad, just curious :))

yeah same question as elizabeth!

I think they have a reputation for being kind of twit-y. Also, the 2 that come with every all-girls school - very promiscuous, or all lesbians.

All he said to me was that they werent taken very seriously by most MIT boys. don't know how true that is.

Haha, or ice cold princesses. I've heard of that one too.

for some reason I have a weird attachment to being referred to as a "wellesley girl", despite some of the negative things that can evoke.....but doesn't it just sound so special!?!?
anyways, do wellesley students have fun on a daily basis? Like aside from weekend and campus wide activities...... I hope it won't be boring to go there

and another thing.....how is the food on campus?
What about the town? I've visited and the immediate surroundings of the schools seems nice with cool shops ...... but if you don't want to go into Boston are there lots of things to do and places to go in wellesley?
