We're all bored here, with 9 days to go

so let's kill time with a little chancing! I think I've got a really good shot, but I've been told I don't have a firm basis in reality. Let's see what the harshest have to say.

White and 1/8th Native American with some tribal affiliation, Male

Stats
3.4 GPA Unweighted
SAT: 800 CR, 730 Math, 710 Writing, 800 History, 760 Lit, 710 Chem
AP: 5 Chem/Bio/History/Psych

EC's

Work:
I've worked at a karate studio since I was 14. Last year I became manager of the local studio, became head of local marketing, and worked with the town and other businesses to create events to showcase local businesses. Also, I designed a curriculum that my boss and I went on to sell to a Chinese corporation.

I also work for my Congressman, John Larson. I was on his campaign and now work doing a lot of office work and community outreach (I even included in my app that I personally was "attacked" by Larson's opponent Krayeske).

I used to be in a band that recorded CDs and went on a tour playing with some professional acts.

I currently write for my town newspaper as a columnist.

Sports:
As a martial artist, my team has won the world championship the past two years and been on ESPN (I was on the team the first time). Also I've been doing karate since I was four.

School:
I'm the senior class president, represent all of student council in the school's "Club Council."
I'm in French Honor Society and National Honor Society.

Recs and Essays were both solid.

Hook:
Well, I've played the Native American card. I toured campus with a member of the NA Cultural Center, and because she works on Admissions she wrote a note to my officer saying that I would be a good candidate for Yale.

Finally, I live in CT and my grandfather graduated from Yale Law. Don't know if any of that matters or not.

Anyways, my biggest concern is that GPA. It's not good, and I've got a "C" for Precalc in my transcript... Do my grades kill the rest of my application? I submitted my first quarter grades, which were almost all As, with one B+ in AP Stats.

Thanks in advance.

I think the Native American hook, the rec from the admissions officer, competitive SAT score (perfectly fine for NA), and nice ECs put you in a very comfortable position.

Can you post your grades for each class broken out by year? That’s clearly the tipping factor here.

Take this with a grain of salt - it’s off the top of my head.
Everything honors unless noted with “”

Latin I-II - A
French - A
Geometry - B
Health - A
Euro I - A
Islamic World* - A-
Chemistry - B+

10th

Photography* - A
Algebra 2 - B+
English - B+

11th

AP Chem - B-
Precalc - C
Composition - A-
AP Psych - A

They’ll definitely look down on that C. And it’s not great that you have so many Bs, either… but you never know. That’s just my (unprofessional) opinion.

I’m just very nervous that I give off the impression that I’m a smart kid who doesn’t take school seriously.

The only problem I see now is that you earned many of your lower grades in your core-classes. I’m guessing you’re more of a humanities person. That is fine, they’ll understand that. It just (obviously) would’ve been better if you could’ve pulled some of those B’s up.

If you get in, then it’ll be my new lowest admittance GPA for Yale I’d know of.

^Do you know any native americans?

My own theory on myself is that I will either get in because I’m NA, or I will be rejected because I’ve got a low GPA. I’m not sure which it is stronger

^That’s pretty sad, don’t you think? If you get in, couldn’t it also be because your essays and recs were fantastic, your SATs were high and Yale honestly believes that you would be an asset to the class of 2015?

Yale isn’t stupid, nor is it going to risk its reputation by accepting a bunch of unqualified NAs who really shouldn’t be there. So, if you get in, it will be because at least Yale thinks you’ve earned it.

@dignified: i love how your username matches quite perfectly what you just said :P

Here’s something else for us all to compulse about while we wait:
[GWU e-mail welcomes rejected early-decision applicants - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/17/AR2010021704264.html)

^There’s always a story like that every year. I totally remember the UCSD fiasco from last year.
