Wesleyan for Financial Aid

Wesleyan is widely noted as one of the most expensive schools in the country.

How does Wesleyan do for financial aid? I understand they cover 100% of need, however, are they generally generous in determining what your actual "need" is?

Also, is Wesleyan actively seeking low-income students? I was a Questbridge Finalist (I know Wesleyan isn't a Questbridge member college, but maybe they still recognize the award?), and thought maybe Wesleyan would recognize me, in an effort to get more low-income students, by my Questbridge Finalist status.

Any information regarding experiences with financial aid at Wesleyan would be appreciated!

Wesleyan has been kind to me in financial matters - We've always managed to get more than we thought we would (our situation has fluctuated a lot since I've started school). Also, when my ex was choosing schools, he wrote Wes a letter when Vassar gave him more aid, and Wes increased his aid by a few THOUSAND dollars.

In terms of seeking out low-income students: The University does have a little-advertised scholarship program that it gives to 10 RD students a year. It is technically aid-based--

"Offered to select students with financial need to encourage the best candidates to choose Wesleyan, a University Scholarship provides more scholarship grant funds than a standard financial aid package, reducing loans by 35%, and includes a stipend for summer research with faculty. "

The stipend is $7000, and it's not just for research with faculty. I used it to take a class at Harvard, and my friends interned in DC/went to Africa/worked in a music studio in New York. Also the scholarship guarantees you a paid research position during the school year. A sweet deal. There's no way to apply, though.

That certainly is generous, my name is just added to the applicant pool for this? I assume this to be the case, seeing as there is no actual application...

Yeah, I have no idea how they go about choosing people.

There's also a Wesleyan Scholar program but I don't know anything about it.
