West Campus Apts

We understand that the students provide the shower curtain. Does he also need to provide the shower curtain rod, or it there a permanent one already installed?

Also, are vacuum cleaners available in the dorm for resident use?

Thanks

OK, now that S2 has moved in, I’ll answer my own questions for others’ future reference.

1) There are permanent shower curtain rods in the bathrooms; just supply your own curtain
2) Residents must supply their own vacuum cleaners (hopefully one of the roommates is taking care of this). They’ll also need a mop for the bathroom areas.

Other West Campus apartment facts:
Rooms are huge. What a change from the forced triple on South Campus last year.
Both bedrooms and the living room are carpeted.
Sofa and chair looked new; other wood furniture certainly showing a lot of wear.
All laminate cabinets in kitchen and vanity were pretty beat and a majority of the laminate was loose and peeling back (we’ll be bringing glue when we visit in a couple of months).
Two floor lamps provided in the living room and one in each bedroom; no overhead lighting. We’ll also likely bring a table lamp when we return in Oct.
Not a lot of cabinet space in the kitchen, and the full-size refrigerator is on the small size. Might be an issue if all 4 roommates are planning to cook, but fine for snacks for 4.
The shower room is huge and has plenty of space for a free-standing shelving unit for toiletries, if desired (certainly not by this all-male unit).
Air conditioning works really well.

Looks like it will be a fun year!

Must be a huge difference from a triple on South…D is back on South for Soph year in Good Counsel, larger room, not as nice as dorm last year,(forget the name, directly across from GC)…Last year she had only 1 room mate,…Isn’t West a hike to main campus, particularly Business and Nursing schools?

Regarding:“Both bedrooms and the living room are carpeted.”

Rooms that have been renovated had the carpeting removed and have a wood floor.
Please call maintenance if you want anything repaired or if you want a wear and tear issue addressed , for example to have blinds replaced ,etc. Agree that AC is very good & bedrooms are large compared to main or south dorms.

Regarding:"Isn’t West a hike to main campus, particularly Business and Nursing schools? "

5 minute walk to Mendel , 8-10 minute walk to Connolly , 10-12 minute walk to Driscoll-Bartley. The walk from West Apartments to Bartley is probably equal to walk from Good Counsel on South to Mendel science center.

Juniors can have cars on west, so juniors looking avoid the walk to Bartley can drive to Main lot and cross Lancaster Ave.

Good luck to all Juniors!!!

qdogpa:
Hopefully your D is happy with South Campus for another year. My S originally was assigned a room in Fedigan; as far as he could tell, he missed the quad by about 2 lottery numbers. Then his roommate transferred to USC during the summer. Unbeknownst to us (parents), he and three other friends applied for the West Campus lottery…and they won!?! We were not so thrilled at the $1000+ more in housing cost, but the facilities are pretty good and he worked this summer for the extra costs. As it turned out, he and we are happy with it.

S is a math major and so the west end of campus works. He figures it’s closer than South Campus to Mendel and the library. He also has to take SEPTA to the Amtrak station to get home on breaks so the West Campus is a big advantage for travel as well. His business school roommates will have quite a hike. On the other hand, St. Marys has a dinning hall, gym, fitness center and a pool, plus the outdoor tennis and basketball courts.

I just hope it’s not weird to be sophomores in junior housing. Not that this group will really care.

Probably no weirder(sp?) then sophmores at South. ;), where probably it is 90% freshmen
