West Coast Ivy League

My list:

•Stanford
•Pomona
•CMC
•Occidental
•Reed
•Gonzaga (maybe Whitman instead)

Cal tech and Mudd are too specialized. USC, UCB, UCLA are too big. Some others are single-gender, which I wouldn’t include.

What’s the purpose in a “fun thread” when you keep getting pissy at people.

Two posts up … Oxy and Gonzaga? Why don’t you include Santa Clara, La Verne, Chapman and Pepperdine.

Sorry, not so obvious. Besides sharing sports, the Ancient Eight are also private, major research Unis, with grad and professional schools. Your intent to include LAC’s is illogical in such a list.

Now, it you just wanted to develop a west coast list of the most selective schools, then your heading needs editing. (But of course, that would deflate your own college.)

@teenbodybuilder‌

Look at this database, wrt Gonzaga’s admissions, [Page 40](http://www.pvphs.com/pdf/CollegeAcceptance.pdf</a>). Not bad, but not highly selective.

Well, how about a list that includes solely research institutions?

Stanford

Berkeley

UCLA

USC

UCSD

UCSB

UC-Irvine

Santa Clara U

Don’t think Chapman’s test scores are good enough to mention with the others. It has good academic qualities that are similar to the others.

SCU could be on the list. Never hear much about it.

La Verne…really? Average SAT is 1500/2400.

I don’t like Pepperdine so it’s not going on my list lol.

Switch Gonzaga for Whitman.

^I was just stating that SCU, La Verne, Pep, Chap, were more like Gonzaga wrt admissions. Good schools, but not particularly really selective. Oxy, is a step above, but not real high either. Remember, our POTUS went to Oxy, and admitted he wasn’t really studious.

"… admitted he wasn’t really studious [in high school]." He became such at Oxy, and then transferred to Columbia.

@drax12‌

It’s actually really interesting that although he indirectly criticized the school, Oxy still mentions his name in just about every single admissions video like some sort of medal of honor.

I think, though, he credits Oxy for nurturing him into being a better student. Of course he went to a pretty good prep school so I’m not sure what kind of nurturing he needed. He was probably just more of an indifferent student in hs.

But then he went to HLS, I don’t know how many years after Columbia. His job after college was community activist?, and I’m sure this had to have some play in his being admitted to HLS. I’d like to know his college gpa and LSAT’s as is so discussed on this board. ;)

Not sure how you justify tying CMC with Pomona and HM. Pomona is the top LAC on the west coast and HM is the top stem LAC on the west coast (and arguably the top stem LAC.) CMC is probably the third best LAC within the consortium, but it’s definitely a notch below the other two.

My list would probably be

Stanford

Caltech

Berkeley

Pomona

UCLA

HM

USC

CMC

Come on guys! Let’s take Carotid’s fun thread seriously now. I’ll start.

In my eyes an Ivy on either coast must have a campus size of at least 100 acres or greater than 1,500 undergrads. It does not have to have both and that’s why Cal Tech still makes the grade. Here’s my list:

Palm League

 1. Stanford
 2. CalTech
 3. Pomona College
 4. Harvey Mudd College
 5. UCB
 6. UCLA
 7. USC
 8. Occidental

Picking one for that eighth slot was very tough, so I may be convinced to trade it out for Santa Clara University, UC San Diego, Scripps, or Pitzer.
