Looking for any information on the Green Quad. My daughter will likely be living there next fall during her sophmore year. Appreciate any input.

Its a nice dorm but its kind of far from campus. Im pretty sure there is also a restaurant connected to it but I read in the paper that they are thinking of closing it but who knows. But other than that I dont have much more info.

there is no-dishwasher which is really gross because nothing ever comes clean. the rooms are literally 10X10 boxes that feel very closed off. i’m a junior at USC and had the option to live in South Quad and am SO SO SO glad i didnt. all of my friends who have lived at the quads have never been happier to move out. i appreciate the whole “green” aspect…but it’s really not that fabulous—living off campus would be the same distance since its not that close anyway…and much much much nicer to be out of a dorm! its a very freshman only campus!

At the bottom, I posted a link to a green quad brochure. If it doesn’t work, you can get it from the USC housing site. Just search housing, and then download the building brochure.
My son lives in South Quad, but I think he said the West Quad was newer, but rooms were a bit smaller. I believe he mentioned about the lights that sensor off when no one is in the room. (Those can be aggravating - I used have them in my classroom where I taught, and the lights can go off if the room is very still!). Also, it seems he said something about the bathroom sinks having cold water and the hot water was only in the shower. Now that is definitely second-hand info, so please don’t take my word on that! I think they have some type of fast dryers in the laundry room, and a lot of natural and fluorescent lighting.
There is a dining site - Cafe Verde in the West Quad, and my son eats there quite often. Seems as if there is also a “convenience store” in West Quad. Son was in Capstone last year, and he has enjoyed being in South Quad this year - 2nd year Capstone. He is looking forward to East Quad for his junior year. Admittedly, off-campus housing may be less expensive and newer with amenities, but I think he likes the walking convenience of on-campus housing and having a meal plan instead of shopping and cooking in an apartment.

More quad info:
The housing site also has typical floor plans and virtual tours of the quads. Generally, students each have an individual BR. 2 BR’s usually share a bath. There are usually 4 students in each apt. (Be advised, some floor plans vary! My son’s apt. has 5 students next year. Depends on where the room is located.) There is a kitchen with a full fridge, full stove, cabinets, and sink. No dishwasher. There is also a living room furnished with a couch, chairs, and a coffee table and a small dinette set with a couple of chairs.

Do all of the quads have individual bedrooms?

as far as I can tell from the brochure, yes

Nike,
All the quad dorms contain mostly individual bedrooms, but not every BR is individual! (Does that make sense?) In my son’s room next year, there are 5 people. Three people each have individual BR’s, but persons 4 and 5 have a large shared BR. There are not a lot of shared BR’s in the quad dorms, but there are some.

Are there any differences between the quads other than location and that the west is the “green” one?

I think they are about the same ie:room layouts.Green Quad is the newest one.

Cathymee is right - they are all similar, and Green (West) is the newest. I believe the rooms in East are slightly bigger, but it may be the oldest. West has a cafeteria, the others do not. Rooms have already been assigned for returning students. In my son’s apt., he and his two roommates were assigned the 3 individual bedrooms. Two incoming transfer students have been assigned the shared bedroom.
