west quadrangle

hi, im a winter admit and just got my housing. i was put in west quad. Any comments? a friend of mine who goes there said that mostly athletes are housed there. Whats the west quad like? (I know the res halls on the hill are suposed to be the best... :(

West Quad is, like most other Michigan dorms, very respectable. Nothing fancy, but certainly reasonable and pleasant. The location is a big plus. It is right accross the street from main campus and connected to the Union. It has many athletes and the food is eddible, but no more! LOL

West and South quad are the most desirable dorms on the campus in most cases. They have the biggest rooms and are closest to main campus. Their food is also reputed to be better, but I think it's all bad. I am a sophomore, out of state, I chose to live in South Quad this year. It's way better than North Campus, where I lived last year, that's for sure.

im a freshman tho :(.. is it usually just all sophmores/juniors?
i transfered after 1 quarter at another university

Naw. There are more sophomores and juniors than you would find on the hill, since west/south quads are the most popular, better location etc. But a large majority of the kids are freshman, you don't have anything to worry about.

The dorms in the Hill Area are quite a bit farther. You'd appreciate that when it's subfreezing with 6" of snow outside. And the rooms are smaller. The best food (wonder if I can use this word for dorm food) is in Stockwell and perhaps Bursley.

The housing assignment this year is not normal. The university was surprised by the larger than usual freshman class (6,000 instead of 5,500); and had to scramble to find dorm space for the additional 500 incoming freshman. Some of the freshman were stuck at Oxford housing; and some upperclassman were forced to move into Norwood married couple housing... So you are actually quite lucky.
