I’m a sophomore in high school and I’m thinking about applying to west point. I’ll most likely submit a 3.7 unweighted GPA , but I’m in All honors and AP and will graduate with programming A& B, 3D modeling and engineering A&B, CAD A& B and STEM physics as my stem classes I took. I know westpoint is big on stem so maybe that will help? I’ll get the predidental community service scholarship each year and will have around 6,000 hours of community service when I apply (I have 4,000 right now). I’m also in 8 clubs and lead 5 of them and am starting the military club at my school with a classmate. I’m on student government and have earned 2 varsity letters for cross country but I’m not doing it next year because I’m now fully committed to crew (as in rowing) im also a Girl Scout and hope to earn my gold badge (kind of equivalent to Eagle Scout but not as big of a deal), and I just applied for the navy stem summer program. Does anyone know if I have a good shot?
pretty good, if you can do pull-ups and get a really good SAT score. Remember, don’t flaunt your stats, it’s distasteful, west point wants people who are leaders, but can also follow. Try to get an internship and a job, the job being at a local grocery store or something. Work behind the scenes and get promoted. Be an active speaker in your community, write a book on your political ideals, and always stand up for what is right. Take risks, never back down from whatever life throws at you. This may mean backing down from a fight. Get into sports. Intramural and extreme sports are the best. Get with your Church group. Become spiritually strong, if you are not already. Don’t strive for the minimum or the maximum. Go beyond that, never give up, never back down. Be so patient that you are in a hurry. Teach yourself, work out. Do your research, keep your search history clean. Stand up for the just political ideals of this country even if you do not agree with them. Speak out against injustice. Seek truth, not repose. Or did he mean for us to seek repose? Truth alone stands. Remember, what you do in life echoes throughout all of eternity. Remember, what you do in life has no effect at all on the world. Be calculating, but daring. Go with the flow, but against it. Think about death until you can only think about life. Then you will be mentally strong, ready.
Ready, Always Ready.
Be honest, WP does not take a liar. Keep those grades up. Take more language classes. Don’t neglect math. Try some foreign language if you have the schedule for it. Follow the application process closely. Go above and beyond. Remember, it is much better if your commander does not know your name at graduation. (That’s from something I read about the SF, de opresso liber.) Become cultured.
Good luck.
For the most part you are doing fine. I would maybe see if there are any more leadership roles you can take on, but other than that you are just as good of a candidate as anyone else. Your biggest competition is the whoever else is applying, and there is really now way for you to know that.
I used metaphors that only relate to myself. I tend to do that, sorry.
My nephew is at West Point and I’m curious as to why women would want to attend a predominantly men’s academy. I’m not being judgmental but what’s the primary motivation? I served in the Army, former CPT, and had to deal with all kinds of on and off duty sexual misbehavior that I found undermines the cohesiveness of the troops. How do you deal with such issues at WP?
