WF vs. Clemson

That was a good game last night, even though wake played kinda bad. It was cool seeing a lot of Wake students pumping up the crowd yesterday, but I still didnt think there were enough (as of the days of Chris Paul). Anyway, was there a reason why there were not as many wake students (in the students section at least)? Were there not enough tickets or were you guys just not interested in the game?

I am trying to get a glimpse of campus life :)

They were watching the classics: UNC Chapel Hill championship film.

i can't pinpoint an exact reason, but tickets were most likely not an issue, as students are basically guaranteed admission to games. keep in mind, this isn't always true; when our basketball team is doing well (and is subsequently popular), it's impossible to get in unless you're a screamin' demon, a school organization which guarantees you a ticket to every game if you sign a contract saying you'll go to all of them.
there were also a few big events scheduled on campus last night (the prepare speakout, to which all fraternity and sorority pledges were required by the school to go; sister helen prejean was also scheduled to speak, but weather issues made her unable to make it in time), so it's possible that students who would have otherwise gone to the game instead planned on attending those.
overall, though, i'd say we're a bit demoralized. the team's not what it used to be.

The game was Wednesday night, not Thursday night (when the prepare speakout was).

I think it was a combination of it being Valentine's Day, it being a very heavy test week for most of us, and a struggling team...only the truly dedicated were truly there. (I don't think they've been kicking people out of SDs this year for missing games because we're not that good, so that probably doesn't help). There's a certain percentage of kids who will come no matter what (a decent amount), those who will only come when we're good or for the big games, and those who won't care no matter what (a small percentage). Nevertheless, our showing was quite poor from both students and alums, and hopefully we can have a bit of a better showing tomorrow afternoon.

And hopefully we'll be better by next year :)

oh I forgot it was valentine's day that day. lol

It was a busy academic week. I know my son had 4 tests--no time for anything like basketball.!

Yeah, it's crunch time for a bunch of us. I know that between Wednesday and this coming Tuesday, I've had/will have four major tests.

so what if ur a screamin deacon, do u have to quit studying and go to the game just for the sake of satisfying ur contract? That seems kinda lame.

I've never been an SD, but I think that the way it works is that you get two unexcused misses and you can also e-mail someone for an excused absence (although I don't know what qualifies as an excused absence).

Take that, Miami!

I had 4 tests last week too, but I still went to the game. Depends on your priorities though...I knew the test in my class the next morning was going to be easy, and going to the game is like a way to relieve stress after taking 3 tests earlier that week.

On the other hand, had it been my organic test the next day, I definitely wouldn't have been there.

Yeah, I also went to the game against Clemson, I was glad becuase it was the best game of the year and I was thisclose not to going. I did not go to the Miami game however. I don't make it a habit of not going to games, because that was one of the reasons Wake appealed to me--belonging to the best athletics conference in the country and fieldiing competitive teams year after year (perhaps not this year :) ) However, next year we are adding a top 7 PG recruit (Teague) and a top 10 SF recruit (James Johnson). My hope is that having Teague lurking will motivate Ish more. Starting five will probably be:
PG-Ish
SG-LD Williams
SF-Johnson
C-Weaver
PF-Skeen
We'll be pretty deep on the bench with Hale, Swinton, Teague too. I'm excited :)

If you go to a WFU football game the student section is PACKED!

I would assume so :)

Does Wake definitely have James Johnson signed, becauase on rivals.com it says they have a "solid verbal?" Also, do they have any chance at Patrick Patterson or Gary Clark, I'm trying to read the articles on rivals and espn but I need a subscription.

Johnson and Teague are both committed, I'm pretty sure.

We're still in the running for PP...he says he wants a smaller school, which would basically leave Dook or us...we haven't been the best this year, but who knows. I think UF, KY, and UVA are still sort of in the running as well. He's supposed to be making up his mind soon and has definitely visited at least once, so I guess we'll see. I also think we're running low on scholarships, barring someone transferring, so that may be a problem.

I don't think we've been showing any interest in Gary Clark.

Check out scout.com. It's free.

4 reasons, IMO, that not very many people were at the game:
1) Kids who signed up as screamin demons originally are now pledging, taking up a majority of their time and taking priority over basketball games
2)valentines day
3) bad week of tests. i myself had 2 tests and a paper due that week.
4) team is bad and people have given up on them
