Wharton Chances

Hi!
So I applied regular decision to Wharton and have been wondering what chances are of getting in, realistically. I have a 4.3 at my school which offers about 12 AP's, my school is ranked in the top 5% in California. I took two AP's and got a 3 and 5 and I am in 3 AP's this year and got a 4.4 first semester. I am half Mexican, and have been lucky to have lived in Hong Kong, (for 5 years, including freshman year) Puerto Rico, and Germany. I'm hoping this will look good to them. I have a bit over 250 community service hours. I am the Vice-President of Safe Rides at my school, in National Honors Society, and am Co-president of Teen Korps, a national organization with a chapter in my town. I got a 32 on the ACT, 30 in English, 34 in Math, 34 in Reading, 30 in science, and 9 on the essay. I have had a job throughout high school, working about 20 hours a week. I also received the National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar award from college board.
I just want to know from everyone if they think I actually stand a chance at getting in, hopefully for some piece of mind cus im freaking out! ahaha

Your Test scores and GPA are below average for Wharton and your ECs are tbh quite average. Maybe Affirmative Action will bail you out, but I’d say it’s a High Reach.

^ disregard that ignorant post right there.

AA has little to do with your applicant. You’re objectively qualified from what I can tell. You stand a chance. How much? No one on this board knows.

Apply and see what happens. Good luck.

chances are Zero, nil and ZIP. We are talking about WHARTON, less than 35 ACT is not going to cut it. Unless you invented the wheel.

@father how can you make such a definitive answer? While, I agree, many applicants are in the 34+ range, you cant just say there is a 0 chance. Regardless, of what a candidates stats are, you have no qualification whatsoever to make an assertion. Perhaps, if parenting is the equivalent of an Ivy-league adcomm member, your answer would carry weight. Don’t crush someones dream with a distorted “realistic” approach. I agree, the 30 is low and the EC’s aren’t impressive. But, you dont realize how much the slightest words weight can be upon the adolescent, college applying mind.

My sister’s best friend was 3rd in her class of 200, Hispanic, president of 1 club, and had an 1800 on her SAT. She’s in Wharton now. Personally, I think she got lucky.

Regardless, you have a chance.

thank you everyone, not really the piece of mind that i wanted but it is an incredible school so I know my chances are low. Thank you!

bump

hongkongkid, I didn’t mean to discourage you. I was just giving a realistic opinion. I think you have a good chance but don’t get your hopes too high. Have some safeties, please.

Penn takes 48% of its first year class from ED. There’s no data limited to Wharton, but quite possibly more that 50% of Wharton is already filled with ED admits. You might want to think about applying to Penn CAS instead of Wharton.

You have a chance, but not a very good one.

@Fatherofm Yeah don’t worry I didn’t take it personally and yeah it’s an incredible school so it’s my first choice but of course it’s a reach.

We can’t see your recommendations and essays, and those will be extremely important.

Why business school? Specifically, why Wharton? How well did you convince someone that your goals and hopes are best met there?

Whoops!!!

The admit rate for CAS isn’t much better than Wharton. You can look @ Penn ED decisions thread to see the scores etc for class of 2017.Your chances are very slim but anything is possible.

thank you everyone
