I am a freshman at Columbia University (CC’10) and, initially, I wanted to do a BA in Economics and Mathematics. However, now I want to transfer to Wharton to get a BS in Finance with a second concentration in Entrepreneurship. I received a 4.0 my first semester at Columbia, but I am worried my recommendations will be very weak, since I barely know any professors (took primarily lecture classes). Also, I am not sure if I have a substantial academic reason for transfer (is the absence of an undergraduate business school at Columbia a legitimate reason?). Please, only reply if you are a college student who is knowledgable of the transfer process–I know a lot of about it because my cousin goes to Wharton, but I’d like some more input.

Yes that is a legit reason.

Ask the prof's for reco's. One vague reco is ok. My prof wrote on my reco that she did not know me at all. I think Penn knows that getting nice reco's from prof's is tough.

you could also get recs from your high school profs. You're a 1st semester frosh so that's hardly what I'd call out of date.

Thanks a lot, I got my Calc and Lit professors to write me recommendations and I'm going to add a supplementary recommendation from a high school teacher.

Please make sure the high school one is supplementary and does not count as one of your two reco's.
