Wharton Vs. Northwestern (Econ) Vs. WashU(Olin) Vs. Dartmouth (Econ)

I know Wharton is an amazing business school. I have not heard many things about WashU Northwestern, and Dartmouth.

if you want to study business, then the answer is probably obvious

I dont get how ppl can get accepted to wharton and then start debating on whether or not to go – probly just fishing for compliments

actually I think the psychology is a little more complex than that. I was 100% sure of a rejection and got accepted. This makes me question my ability (maybe I was a mistake), the school’s image (if I got in, maybe it’s not all that great) and of course whether I was in for the reputation or the fit. For me, this is a fit and I’m going. But I can see why doubt would creep into other students’ minds.

For business, go Wharton. For econ, go Dartmouth. Your chances out of college are roughly the same out of both institutions and they cost approximately the same. The other two schools are significantly lower caliber and do not deserve your consideration with these 2 offers on the table.

Well think about the atmospheres at both colleges. Dartmouth = a rural area

Wharton = awesome city…

Whartonnnn FTW!!! UPenn2013 whooot

to Acceptd, don’t just assume people are fishing for compliments…my friend (who is going to Deep Springs) said he’d go to Northwestern over Wharton (doesn’t want to do business, that makes sense) and Northwestern is fabulous…we all rely too much on “prestige”…and I know I do it too

we aren’t the only ones. Employers do too.

scribbler, that makes NO sense at all. If your friend doesnt want to do business why would he even apply to Wharton in the first place??

he was saying rhetorically (if I weren’t going to Penn, I would be going to NU)…he didn’t apply to either (well, I dunno if he applied to NU).

Should I say please don’t go because i’m on the waitlist? LOL.
I think the only one that is sort of comparable to Wharton is Dartmouth, but if you have already decided to go on for business, then wharton should be the best choice.

“my friend (who is going to Deep Springs) said he’d go to Northwestern over Wharton (doesn’t want to do business, that makes sense)”

… was that serious? … lol wow - obviously… why would you ever even think to go to wharton if your not gonna do business… tht was the worst example ive ever seen in my life, and honestly i was embarrassed for you as i read it

wow, you don’t have to be so rude acceptd. Not everyone going to wharton WANTS to do business. there are so many other things you can do with the stuff you learn at wharton.
and yes, some people would choose prestige, like Wharton, even if they didn’t want to do business. (I may be one…Wharton’s the only business school I applied to, everything else was arts and science…and I have no idea what I wanted to do in non-business stuff, but it wasn’t econ…now I just have something directed)

if you have no interest in business, you will be completely demolished in wharton. Kids coming in know their stuff and WANT to learn business. Better retention for exam if you actually care about the stuff. Everything on a bellcurve. Your call…

I DO care about the stuff, but it’s not like I was “business school or bust.” Yes, people come in “knowing their stuff” but a lot of people don’t, as well. And I’m definitely interested in the classes we have to take, otherwise I wouldn’t have said yes.

I think I can handle the competition…most people coming from my high school generally find college much easier than school was for us, including (especially?) the Ivies.

necrophiliac, if i’m not mistaken, you have yet to actually experience wharton courses for yourself, so it would be wise to withhold judgment of your fellow classmates until you do

and i think scribbler will be just fine =)
