Grove City is a Christian college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church but accepts students of all denominations. Students would feel most comfortable there who actively practice their religious beliefs. There are a lot of activities centered around religion.

It is one of the most selective and academically sound Christian colleges. The SAT 25th-75th percentile range is 1152-1378, about the same as top-fifty liberal arts colleges such as Lafayette, Franklin and Marshall, and Dickinson. I am sure they offer good premedical preparation.

I know some very smart, talented (and nice) people who attend Grove City. They have told me about their retreats and so on. I think they ask for a letter of recommendation from a minister...not sure.

Grove City is about one hour north of Pittsburgh, I believe.

Wheaton is another excellent Christian college.

Grove City is a very pretty, wooded campus in a VERY SMALL town...about an hour+ north of Pittsburgh. If you won't have a car there, be sure you can live in a very cloistered atmosphere.

Academics are quite good - pre-med program and business come to mind.

I believe GC still has mandatory chapel attendance once a week.

Kids who go there seem to love it, but it sure turns a lot of prospectives off, as well.

I know a freshman there now who loves it. She is from South Jersey, so it is a bit of a drive, but it is a good fit for her, a bright, high achieving, convervative, religious girl.

I agree that Grove City is a great choice for someone who is conservative and a Christian. It's academics are excellent, and you son won't be under constant pressure to compromise his values that way he would be at a secular college. Wheaton is also fantastic--my daughter will be starting there next fall. Good luck in your search!

My son was just accepted at Grove City and it's high on his list. We've visited the school a few times (my daughter was also accepted there 6 years ago, but went elsewhere) and were very impressed with the academic rigor, beautiful campus, opportunities for Christian ministry, and very reasonable cost. It's one of the few Christian schools that offers engineering (one of my son's interests) as well as a strong economics department. We've spoken to a few alums who were very enthusiastic about their experiences there.

Grove City's chapel policy states that out of a possible 50 or so services a semester, all students are required to attend a minimum of 16. Not too overbearing, but it keeps kids accountable.

Thanks so much for your reply. We will be sure to investigate Wheaton now, as well. Did you folks look at Grove City? I'm interested in the reasons Wheaton was chosen. Thanks for your time.

GCC is on our "short list" and I am anxious for info. I've asked around for info at our rather large church and no one seems to have heard of it. I get the impression that they are becoming more selective due to the good press they have been receiving of late. I'm also curious as to why such a seemingly "strict" christian school offers wellness dorms - or am I living in my own "happy little world"?
