What am I good enough for

<p>I'm not the best of the best like a lot of people here but I've been lucky to go to the best school in my state that colleges know well (for example its in the top 25 in this list [url=<a href="http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/info-COLLEGE0711-sort.html%5DWSJ.com%5B/url"&gt;http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/info-COLLEGE0711-sort.html]WSJ.com[/url&lt;/a&gt;] )</p>

<p>My favorite schools i've visited are
Emory
Bucknell
and University of Richmond
and i also have some interest in Villanova (4th gen legacy), Boston College, delaware, Fordham, lafayette... but then I'm not really sure what caliber I should be looking for, because schools like Emory and BC are really difficult to get into but I know I could do the work and do well and my sister got into haverford with a lower gpa than mine and an otherwise similar resume so I don't know if I should look for more reaches like Michigan, W&M, Vanderbilt, WashU (ive only visited emory), or more matches/safer bets like elon? I want to be an english major and also which schools are reaches which are matches etc. thanks i WILL gladly chance you back!!!!</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT: ive only taken it once and got a 2100 (730 CR 680 M 690 W) without studying... im taking it next week though and i've been studying alot
ACT: taking june 11
SAT II Subject Tests: 720 lit 680 us
3.6 school doesnt weight gpa ... i know not great i have bs and as
Rank: not given
AP's: all of my classes are advanced, no AP classes. took ap exams for history and lit (think lit went really well and history ok)
Senior Year Courseload: Calc AB, Advanced Modern European History, Environmental Science, Psychology, Advanced Studio art, Russian Novel (1st semester english class), literature of social justice (2nd semester), yearbook.
I asked for my recs from the head of the history department who wrote one of my essays was the best in the 47 he read. and my english teacher who suggested i be an english major. i got 94s in both those subjects</p>

Yearbook 10-12, editor 11-12
Mock trial co-president next year
Lecture council vice president (it's a history lecture series that the entire school attends throughout the year and students assist with running, i've been a leader in the club and i've had dinner with the dean of harvard law and stuff because of it)
highest ranked in church choir, have been doing for 9 years
teach sunday school hour a week
youth group- service projects throughout the year
2 summers with habitat for humanity in WV
last summer in south africa for service trip
this summer serving mexican orphanage (in case you cant tell i love service haha)
substitute lifeguard this summer
summer writing classes at boston university
National young leadership conference attendee in october
part in school musical
Multimedia Club 3 years (make school video news program)
Diversity club 4 years
4 years tennis (jv for last 3)
4 years summer swim team and school v swim team for a year
2 years volleyball</p>

<p>I think if you can find some focus in your ECs then you have a solid shot at a lot of your schools. You should be in at richmond and villanova. Emory is probably a bit of a reach right now.</p>

<p>I don’t know about Emory because everyone I know that goes go Emory has atleast 2270 for SAT but you can still get in it. You are good for Bucknell, like unodosytracy said, focus on the ECs especially the leadership part. You have a lot of interest in sports, which is very good for Richmond</p>

<p>I think you have a good shot at most of your schools, especially since you have solid activities and challenge yourself academically. I hear that many students that get into Villanova do have some sort of legacy, so you may be looking good in that area.</p>

I really appreciate it and the advice is helpful :slight_smile: I know emory is so hard, if I decide it’s my first choice I’d apply early but because of my gpa I’m not sure if it’s worth it. So yeah I really appreciate all the honest replies :)</p>

<p>Your GPA is a little low for Emory, but you have a decent shot for most of the schools on your list. Gain some leadership roles in your ECs and you will stand out a little bit more. Thanks for chancing me and good luck!</p>

<p>Elon is deffinitly a safety for you
I would suggest looking at/considering Michigan and Wake forest because i think both are low reaches for you (although Michigan is much bigger than the others and a different feel)</p>

<p>you need to get either your sat’s or gpa up a bit for WashU and Vandy</p>
