What AP's are worth self studying for

I have been browsing the AP Tests Preparation forum but haven’t found the answer I was looking for.

My school offers:
English (instead of 11th grade English)

US History
Gov+Politics
Psychology

Computer Science
AB/BC Calc
Stats

and finally, the double blocks:

AP Bio, Chem, and Physics C

I know that colleges only care about how many you take compared to the other people at your school. The top people at my school take one AP english, one AP social studies, two AP maths, and one AP science.

Would it be advantageous doing some of the ones not offered myself this summer, or would it be a waste of time? The top 10% of my school gets into the best colleges, and I will (hopefully) be in the top 10%. I don’t know of anyone who took more than one science because they are double blocks.

Is it worth it self-studying, and if so for which ones?

Bump?

RIP?

If you are doing it to potentially get credit in college, it may be worth self studying. If you are doing it solely for your college applications, it’s a waste of time.

@skieurope Well, I am interested in business but my major will definitely be engineering. Would microeconomics help? Or should I just stick with my school’s normal plan and do some community service or work on my computer science portfolio?

@shaash There is no expectation from any US college that you should self study a subject. Your school offers the key AP’s, so I see no reason why you would want/need to supplement. I would think that you can pull together an academic schedule from your school’s offerings. Outside of the school day, it really does not matter if you do community service, joins some school clubs, or get a job. Just do something that is not purely academic related.

@skieurope Got it. Thanks! Maybe I’ll work on my music lol
