My school does not offer a few APs that I want to take. How do I go about self-studying for them? What are the advantages/disadvantages of this?

I am intereseted in social sciences and history, and was thinking of self studying for one or two APs.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I self-studied APUSH, and got a 5. Definitely worth it.

college credit = less time spent in classes = good

That’s pretty much what AP exams are for, like MosbyMarion said.

But some people use the AP exams as a motivation to study a subject they’re interested in.

There’s a stickied thread up top. ^^

In my opinion, yes, if your schools offer very little AP or, in your case, doesn’t offer the ones you want to take. It’s a great way to learn about college material (for instance, I found psychology, though an easy AP subject, fascinating) and show to colleges that you are a self-learner.

It’s worth it to self-study if you pass the exam and get credit for it at the college you’re going to attend
