What ar my chances of getting into Yale?

please be honest, yet respectful

I go to Hunter College High School in NYC (a magnet school)

I am currently takin 11th grade honors Math, 11th grade english, U.S. history, Physics, AP Chemistry

Next year, I plan to take: Ap Biology, AP English Language and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB and AP Studio Art. I'm also planning to do a biology internship for a teacher

My GPA: Here is my main problem. I was REALLY REALLY bad in 9th grade and so it affected my gpa tremendously. In 9th grade, my year's average was a C. However, i worked hard and raisied it to an A-/A 10th grade and am currently averaging A-/A junior year. I ask at the infomation session at brown and they said they look at progress in grades as well. Because of 9th grade, my GPA is around a B+

ranking: no ranking in our school

Test Scores:
SAT II Biology-E (700)
SAT II Chemistry (680 - retaking it, practice tests show 740)

What's unique about me?
I am really into art

teacer recs:
found two really great teachers who'd be happy to write me one

counselor recs:
my counselor really really likes me

essay: i have a very very interesting background and life and with the help of a good editor and counselor, could write a pretty good essay

interview: im extremley social and confident

Good - but you need to make your personality and background shine through on all aspects of the app.

The more you work on your grades and standardized test scores, the better chance you will have. Also, try to find teachers who have seen your academic side grow to write your recommendations and/or talk about it in an essay. You seem really into art, are you planning on sending in some slides?
I'd definitely apply and follow your dreams and apply, but understand that Yale is ridiculously competitive. You should definitely supplement your Yale application with some other universities and LAC's that are safeties or matches. Best of luck!

And spell "are" right! ;) But seriously, you need to really ACE the essay and have great recs that talk about your personality, work ethic, etc., not just that you are a good student. You have to stand out from 20,000 other applicants in other words. I know you can do it! Just try to finish your app early and think of the overall picture it presents. Make tweaks as necessary to make sure someone reading it for the first time, for five minutes, would understand something important about you.

Im gonna submit a portfolio of my artwork, is that okay?

and yea, im getting one from a teacher i just got this year who i instantly had an amazing connection with

and one from a teacher who has taught be since sophmore year

poop, (sorry...couldn't resist)
I don't know what format they want since I don't do visual art, but I was just making sure that you're planning on sending something to show your skill. It wouldn't hurt to contact someone up there in the art department to show your interest a few times before you send in your application so that they'll be expecting your art and perhaps be more likely to recommend you for admission.

It will be tough for you to get in, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Make good choices about applying to reach and safety schools, and don't go into the process expecting anything. Things will work out for the best, and inevitably what's going to happen will happen. Above all, don't stress about admissions.

Honestly, apply to Yale if it's your first choice, but consider it a super reach. People with consistent A/A- averages have had a tough enough time getting in. Unless your art is something super spectacular your chances are likely pretty low. I just wanna be the honest person who tells you how difficult it is, especially from a pressure cooker NYC school like Hunter. I go to Stuy and there are a bunch of kids with 96-97 who didn't get in and were great extracirricularly. If I could offer you any advice...on the application put a unique major one related to your strengths i.e. art history or something along those lines. Remember they are really trying to make a diverse class. By the way definitely send your work in! If you don't your chances of getting in are basically zero.

lol..thanks everyone =/
