What are all these rumors that Columbia won't use its waitlist this year?

Hi eatsalot - at least we’ll know something this week. Here’s the reply I received from a letter I sent online last week following up on my waitlist letter:

Thank you for your wait list letter. All students on the wait list will
be notified of their status this week. Please feel free to contact me
with any other questions, and good luck in the rest of your senior year!

hahaha that is word from word what my regional rep emailed me too

now i dont feel special :(

Is it a bad sign if I sent out a waitlist letter like a month ago and never received a reply? I sent it via snail mail directly to the office of admissions…

^ don’t worry, i sent one out by snail mail a while ago, they didn’t reply, however, i called and checked to see if they got it, and they did, so it’s all good

ugh this is seriously fdgaysgfhs. i just want to know LOL. i can’t like TRULY commit myself to my school yet :(

i feel the same way eatsalot. i dont want to get too excited about the school im going to, just incase. hopefully they’ll tell us something helpful soon!

^^cgeorge and eatsalot, I know exactly how you guys feel. Believe me, like everybody else on the waitlist I would absolutely LOVE to attend Columbia. But my two cents… get excited about your other school, fall in love with it (before you find out about Columbia)… because chances are that you will end up there and there a million things about your school that I’m sure you will love. Its best to set your mind on going elsewhere, so that if and when Columbia does work out, it’ll be a great perk, but if it doesn’t you’ll be fine with it.

^thanks tiramisu. i have fallen in love with my school already… i’m just scared of getting attached? actually i don’t know exactly what i feel LOL. but i know for sure i feel anxious haha. i mean either way, i know i’m going to be happy, but i wish that they would just inform us of the status of the process. columbia’s peer schools (penn, duke, harvard, princeton, yale, etcetc) have at least already given their applicants some form of news. yet columbia hasn’t :(

yea i really hate that, that Columbia hasnt released any news at all.
it’s supposed to be coming today
eeek

Hy guys! I’m new around here, I just registered, but I’ve been watching these threads for some time. I was also waitlisted at Columbia and waiting for their response like all of you, and finally it arrived today. Unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted after all, and I am quite sad, even if I knew I had little chances.
For all of you who are still waiting for a response, here’s what I received in the e-mail:
“We have now heard from all of our admitted students, and the Class of 2013 is full. This leaves us with the regrettable task of releasing the great majority of the candidates on our waitlist so that they may go forward with their plans for the coming year. We are confident that the colleges where you and these other strong applicants will matriculate this fall will be made richer by your academic and personal contributions.
This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. We recognize and applaud your record of academic and personal achievement and regret that Columbia will not have the benefit of the contributions you could make here. I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors.
Thank you again for your longstanding interest in Columbia.”
I wish you good luck in the next weeks, and who knows, maybe they will need to take some more students from the waitlist, after all.

doubt it
i think its basically over

good luck at all your respective schools everyone!

ain’t no rumor anymore;;

officially over :/

I was sent this by email on May 15 (evening)

"In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia University. As things now stand, we have filled our class and cannot be sure that we will have places to offer any more students.

We have officially released the great majority of our waitlisted candidates, but we are holding on to a small group of students should any additional openings occur. We would like to offer you the opportunity to have a place on this extended waitlist, although I understand that this may serve only to prolong your suspense. Of course, there are no guarantees that there will be any movement, and we must emphasize that the chance that we will be able to offer you a place at Columbia is small, but we are offering you the option of holding on just a little longer. We will continue to keep you up to date on your status through the month of June.

Please let us know by May 22, 2009, if you wish to keep your place on this final and most selective waitlist by replying to this e-mail and using the form below.
We send our best wishes and our thanks for your longstanding interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions"

Is this just the college, or inclusive of both the engineering school and the college? I would think that they would each have different situations given that they are two different application processes.

I think both SEAS and CC are full.
