If anyone has any updates about the waitlist situation at Columbia, let us know! I plan on staying on the waitlist for Fu. What about you all? And how good are our chances of getting in off the waitlist?

Good luck fellas ❤️

waitlisted. Staying
Accepted - Duke

Waitlisted as well. Will most likely be staying, although any information regarding chances of getting admitted off of the waitlist would be great.

waitlisted at columbia, yale, and harvard. will be staying for all three. committing to uchicago soon though!

waitlisted at columbia too. anyone know any of the stats?

Same here^ and very interested

Dont think columbia posts stats

Waitlisted at Columbia and Brown
Accepted to UC Berkeley and Reed

waitlisted at columbia, but will most likely be committing to Oberlin (unless UVA can convince me).

Waitlisted (and staying) at Columbia, will be committing to Syracuse.

Here are the stats/relevant info I’ve found so far:

Columbia waitlists around 2,000 people each year. About 1,500 people accept their spots on the waitlist, and around 40-50 people on the waitlist are typically admitted, but sometimes no one is.

Columbia actually admits more people than they want, because only 58% of admitted students accept Columbia’s offer of admission. This generally leaves them with about 1,350 students who were initially admitted and will attend. Sometimes it’s less, in which case they’ll head to the waitlist and start offering people admission until the desired class size has been achieved. Occasionally it’s more, in which case no one is admitted from the waitlist.

In terms of who on the waitlist is offered admission, Columbia says it doesn’t rank the waitlist and that everyone is given equal consideration. This is kind of true; apparently what they’re really doing is looking to replace specific people who were admitted with people from the waitlist. So if a violin-playing bio major was admitted but decided not to attend, the admissions committee will be looking for someone very similar to admit from the waitlist.

This mostly just makes me very pessimistic about our chances. Sorry, but good luck!

Where did you get the 2000 number from? From what I’ve heard and seen in a few articles (post 2010), Columbia waitlists fewer than 1000

Waitlisted at Columbia here as well. Have already accepted it but am very happy with my planned school(Cornell)!

Hi guys well good luck and I too decided to stay on the wait list though I’m a bit
iffy about accepting a wait list acceptance if that means less financial aid, so does anyone know if
its true that wait listed acceptees get less aid in a school like Columbia? I am currently deciding between
Cornell and Duke so I’m still pretty happy :)

are you guys taking any actions to get off the waitlist? like calling the admission office or flying out to columbia, etc…

also waitlisted at Columbia and committing to Uchicago. Are we supposed to receive an email saying that they have received our letter?

Waitlisted Columbia, Penn, Harvard, Yale, Duke
Into Chicago.

Did any of you send in a letter of interest? I did but got no response back from Columbia. It’s probably not possible that they missed it, but some confirmation would’ve been nice

I have sent it out early and received no confirmation. Probably they are too busy, but i hope they could at least take a look at our letters:)

WL : Harvard, Columbia
I have narrowed my decision down to Princeton, Brown, or JHU

If you decided to stay on the wait list: we interviewed some Columbia wait list admits over at Bwog. Hope it helps—good luck! <a href=“Hope For The Waitlisted - Bwog”>http://bwog.com/2014/04/26/hope-for-the-waitlisted/
