It all depends on what your needs are. What type of environment is right for you?

Are you serious? That requires a very long and detailed post which I'm sure most people would not want to do. I'll try to give you a short-handed version, but the best way is to dig up old threads in each of the UC's forums.

UCB - best academically. Great faculty. Great athletics. Great reputation in general. Some majors challenging and competitive. Very diverse and interesting city but crime can be a problem.

UCLA - very strong academically. Some majors competitive. Very nice surrounding city. Great food. Great athletics. Honors college has nice perks.

UCSD - large and spread out campus. Nice college system that forms smaller communities within the University. Strong academically, especially in sciences. Close to the beach.

UCI - good academically. Disproportionately large amount of Asians. Nice city.

UCD - good academically. Large campus in a rural area.

UCSB - good academically. Known as a party school and deserves its reputation. Close to the beach. More caucasians and less Asians than other UCs. Students like to have fun.

UCSC - okay academically. Nice campus. More focused on undergraduates than other UCs. Very interesting mascot.

UCR - okay academically. From my experience, often filled with students rejected from other UCs. Still, a solid school.

UCM - weak academically. Up-and-coming school. Some benefits are smaller classes and no TAs. In a relatively rural area. Generally the safety UC. Very small undergraduate population.

I apologize if I have overgeneralized or if some people don't agree. This is just what I have found to be true, and I tried to condense it for this post.
