I'm currently in California and considering transferring to a school in New York. My major is communications, and when I transfer I'll have a 3.6 GPA or above. I want to go to school near Manhattan but it doesn't necessarily have to be there. I had a bad SAT score the only time I took it in high school (like a 970) but since I'm transferring it shouldnt matter. I know about NYU and Columbia, but what other schools would be good fits for me?

Your SATs do matter insofar as they send up a red flag the size of New Hampshire. Columbia is frankly not in the cards, but NYU might work. Fordham also is a safe bet.

they matter a lot more if youre transfering as an underclassman however

what school are you currently attending in california? if you're not attending stamford, ucla, berkley and have a 3.6, columbia and nyu are way out of the question

fordham could be a good fit, ive also heard very good things about the new school, pace university

Im sorry if I didn't state it correctly but I meant other schools besides NYU and Columbia. Those are the only schools I know in the area I'm interested in living at. I'm going to a CC in California so I know that NYU wouldn't take me lol. I've heard of colleges like St. John's/Queen's college/SUNY etc. but I was wondering if you could tell me what would be good matches? Also what schools would be good for my major. I'm pretty confident NYU and Columbia are out of the question

Do you only want to be Manhattan or in the State of NY? The SUNY's are either on Long Island or upstate NY, the CUNY schools are in the city. Then there are many private schools to choose from in the area, like Hofstra on Long Island. My son is transferring to SUNY New Paltz....it's about an hour away from Manhattan. He is also majoring in Communications.
