I want to major in accounting and minor in economics. Is that a smart/good way to go?
What are minors for anyway? How can you use them? What priveleges will they give you? Will they give you a higher starting salary? Will they give you a higher chance of getting a job? Please tell me whatever you know about it

Minors are simply a concentration of classes that you take. It may be beneficial to an employer, but rarely do you get a higher starting salary. In my opinion, it is more of, oh look I have a minor in xyz and know more information than the average person on xyz! Basically, its sorta useless…Just my opinion!

yea, mostly a resume booster, won’t make a difference salary wise, usually.

Just a nice distraction that you can use on your resume!!

I wonder if it is more or less useful to have a minor that is a bit farther afield from one’s major. Let’s say a physics major had a minor in English. Could she/he then parlay this by saying they are better position to write good grant proposals (if they are going the academic route?)

^ yea, maybe. People do minors similar to their major because courses are very similar. For example, I major in Astrophysics, if I wanted to minor in physics, I would only need to take 1 or 2 additional courses.

But minoring in English would require many classes I would have otherwise not taken, and English, like Physics, is very demanding on it’s own, so it would be hard to accomplish it without going insane!

What about my case:P?Accounting as a mjor and economics as minor. Will that work?Does it sound good?
