What are my chance should I choose to appeal?

I just received my letter in the mail today and was rejected.

I’m thinking about appealing as an OOS student.

I have a 3.54 unweighted GPA and 1840 SAT. I’ve been a boy scout all my life and have been involved with over 500+ hours of community service, along with achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. I’m the Senior Patrol Leader of my scout troop, so I’m in charge of mandating and coordinating all troop events. I was a part of my high school’s varsity swimming and water polo teams. I’ve volunteered at nursing homes, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and have set up a group to help distribute food and warm clothes/tents to the homeless during the holidays. I’ve volunteered as a cabin leader at science camp. I volunteer as a vocalist at a local convalescent, and am very involved with the organization. I’ve been a lobbyist in the Youth and Government program for two years.

I’m really surprised that I wasn’t offered admittance to the school. I really hope I’m able to successfully appeal. What are my chances?

chances* oops

I am so sorry to hear that you were denied. Crazy!!! I have no empirical data, but I really believe that with a heartfelt appeal you have a good chance of admission. How were your essays in your application?

Sorry to hear that you were denied. :frowning: Although your ECs are great and your SAT is above the average, your GPA is kinda low, especially as an OOS student (and UW considers unweighted GPA one of the most important features of the application, if not the most). If you have new, compelling information to bring forth, then it would be worth it to write an appeal, but if not, then it’s your application all over again.

Also, I’ve read that the UW website says that there is a 5% chance your appeal will work, so if you want to do it, I guess it all depends on your perspective of your situation.

I’d take that 5% chance
