What are my chances and other help!

Hi everyone! Im a upcoming Senior in High school and am starting my application process soon. I lived in a small city in Central California up until my junior year of high school when moved up north to a prestigious high school that I wasn't used to the quality of education.

Freshmen Year: 3.8/3.8 Two Honor classes
Sophmore Year: 3.1/3.8 Two Honor Classes
Junior Year: 2.0/2.3 No Honors 1st SAT: 1580
Senior Year: TBD Not sure yet 2nd SAT: TBD

I went through very tough times in high school including the death of my brother who pretty much raised me my whole life and parents health problems. I know excuses won't get me anywhere but it really made life tough. And moving to a new city at the start of Junior year really destroyed me.

Anyways, my dream school is SDSU and I know Junior year really hurt my chances but I feel like I have an outside chance now. I just need advice on what to do. I'm really stressed that I won't get into any CSU besides maybe Chico and East Bay but I don't want to go there. Im willing to go to a community but thats not my first choice by any means. Any advice at all would be very helpful. Thank you. :)

I’m neither from California nor knowledgeable enough to discuss the CSU system, but what I can tell you (as advice) is to increase your SAT score and explain your circumstances in any college applications you fill. Good luck! :)

I too am not knowledgable about the school you are looking at. Your reasons for your grades will be viewed as legitimate by colleges (they are not just something like I didn’t feel like doing my work). But the fact that you had a major downward trend in GPA will really hurt you. If you have any EC’s that will help a bit, I agree with the other poster, you should try and up your SAT score or even try taking the ACT. You might want to consider CC and then a transfer depending on what schools you are mainly looking at.
