Starynight, Your audition will be the thing that will get you into CFA for flute performance, but you already know that. The music department is very good about setting up interview times and school tours. If you are in the Boston area, you should do that. Call them. Classes end the second week in December and school doesn't resume until Jan. 18. I know there is a wind ensemble concert on December 9 in the evening. The orchestra is playing at Symphony hall on November 28 (I think that's the date). This would give you a chance to hear the ensembles. Also, you might want to see if you can schedule a lesson with a member of the flute faculty if you haven't already done so. Interviews are NOT part of the audition process at CFA (although they ARE at other universities in the music dept). When is your audition? P.S. I think I edited my profile to allow you to send me an email...you can if you want to and I'll try to tell you everything my son has told me!

I don't know about the "stats" for CFA admits. I do know that students admitted to CFA must also be admitted to BU...BUT the CFA audition carries a huge amount of weight. If you don't make it though the audition, you will not be admitted to CFA. Conversely, if you DO and your stats are in the admissions ball park, they would be able to lobby for you. To be honest, your stats look better than my son's but that was two years ago. He ranked a bit higher in his class, and had a 730 verbal SAT (which was a huge calling card, we think) and combined SAT of 1320. He also had attended Boston University Tanglewood Institute for two summers so the brass faculty (he's a brass player) knew him well...plus he had been accepted at Tanglewood amongst some strong players. They do recruit potential students from that summer program so I think his participation helped him. He had a HUGE resume of orchestra and band experience, not just only all state, but the MENC Eastern Regional Conference, URI Honors Band, and four years of ensemble and chamber music playing at the Hartt School. I'm sure they look at each student profile carefully. SO....good luck with your audition. Being well prepared is a good idea!! Dress nicely, be organized, and go for it. Just curious....why BU??? Are you applying to other music performance or conservatory programs as well?

Why BU? In general...
I like the partnerships they have with Tanglewood and the Royal College of Music (in England), and I also like the BUCOP program. I feel that there are a lot of opportunities in Boston and Boston University; I like the idea of a huge school (yes, I've visited :) ) and they seem to be very diversified, which suits me.
