I am currently a junior, and I just wanted some opinions on what my chances were for A&M, UT Austin, and Rice! My combined SAT score is 2050 (M-700 and CR-690). My ACT is 30 (I'm retaking it) and I have a 3.75 GPA.

I really appreciate any opinions or suggestions! Thanks!

What is your class rank? That will determine a lot. I think you are going to be rejected at Rice unless you have some fantastic extracurricular activities, leadership, sports, under-represented minority, first generation college, etc. My daughter got waitlisted at Rice with scores very close to yours and a higher GPA. Class rank factors in too of course. Your class rank will determine if you are accepted for UT Austin since most spots are filled by the top 7%. You have a good shot at Texas A&M with your SAT scores, but probably depends on your major, class rank, etc. Anyway, good job on your SAT, that’s very respectable.

Lulabee, I’ve known people who got into UT Austin with your SAT scores who were coming from private high schools that don’t rank students. But if you come from a ranking high school, then class rank is pretty important for getting into UT. Some majors are also harder to get into than others. So it depends what you are applying into.

And of course you can get into Texas A&M automatically with a 1300 SAT reading / math score (which you have!) and top 25% class rank. So with luck you can be an auto admit for Texas A&M!

You live in state, right? If so A&M and UT are attainable, Rice however is a reach.

Yes I live in state, and my high school doesn’t rank. But thank you so much for your help!!
