Hi, I’m just finishing up my junior year and am extremely interested in computer science at Cornell. I was wondering what you guys think my chances are if I apply ED.
SAT: 1460 (790 Math 670 Reading)-- taking it again in June
ACT: 33(35 M, 34 E, 31 S, 30 R)
GPA weighted: 4.48 – will go up after this semester to around a 4.50
GPA unweighted: 3.77
Ranking: Top 10%
State: Illinois
AP Scores: AP compsci A(3), AP Micro/Macro(5 on both)
Gender: White Female
Current Classes: Adv data structures, ap calc bc, apush, honors Spanish, honors engineering, honors chem
Sr year classes: iOS app development, ap chem, ap physics c, ap stats, multivariable, (those are the main classes)
Extracurriculars: Lacrosse, field hockey, key club, deca (went to state and placed top 10), out of school entrepreneur club, girls coding club, mathletes, honors society, Spanish honors society
So anyways, I know my uw gpa is a little on the weaker side, idk how that would affect me considering I’ve taken challenging classes and my weighted is pretty comparable. So I was just wondering what you guys think my chances are if I do ED.
While your stats are pretty weak for Cornell, Engineering would be more interested in your math/science performance, which seems on par.
It’s also good that you’re taking advanced classes in high school, however it is a little strange that you seem very interested in computer science but received a 3 on the AP exam. You will really have to talk about your passions in your college admissions essays to have a chance, even with ED.
It’s Cornell, your chances are always lousy. If you’re planning on CS, there’s seriously no need to go to Cornell. Right now, the tech industry is in a negative unemployment rate. Pick a good school and get your degree.
Hi, AL. I know I’m worried about the 3 on the AP Test. It was the first AP Test I ever took, on the second day of ap tests given. I had an A in the class and very admittedly wrongly thought the AP Test would be easy considering I had done well in the class and knew how to code well at least in my opinion. I know we don’t have to send in ap scores so I don’t know if that would give a boost. Thanks for you’re opinion. I know the college admissions process is basically a crapshoot and I’ll have to wait until December to really know.
