What are my chances at CSU-Long Beach?

I’m coming into my senior year of high school(c/o 2018.) I absolutely love CSU- Long Beach, and I’ve pretty much written off UCLA as being too much of a reach considering my academic performance. I’ve been researching, but some sites say I have a >50% chance, while others say I have a <50% chance.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.66-3.7(I just finished taking an extra class over the summer that I aced, so I know that will help my GPA a tiny bit.)
In middle school I took 4 high school courses: Algebra 1, Geometry, Spanish 1, and Spanish 2, but I got C’s in three of those courses, and a B in one.
I have only taken one AP class my entire high school career, which was AP Language Composition my junior year, that I got an A in.
My SAT score is 1200: 660 Reading and 540 Math.
Unfortunately(or fortunately?), I don’t live in California, I’m in Maryland.

Priority admission goes to local students. It is a California public school funded by California taxpayers.
It is the most popular CSU in California. They had 91K applications this past year. For every 100 students, they accepted 34. Once they run out of space, they run out.

Your stats are okay, but being OOS means you have to have better stats.
No financial aid is provided to non-residents.
You need to be able to pay ~$40K per year. Are your parents okay with that?

The tuition cost is a non-factor for me & my family. I’m just really worried about acceptance. I really want to go to a 4-year school in or around LA or Long Beach, and I’ve grown fond of CSULB.

Acceptance would be an issue because you are not local and the school prioritizes instate and local residents.
Your scores and stats have to be better than the average California application.

Try the privates. They aren’t funded by the State and have a level playing field for in and OOS students. If you like OC, and cost isn’t an issue, try Chapman. You may also want to take a look at Loyola Marymount

assuming that is your CSU GPA, as long as you have completed the a-g courses, you should be competitive for any CSULB program but nursing.

Just FYI: my son’s stats were almost identical to yours, and he was rejected to undeclared major last year. He was probably behind you a little in math rigor. My son is in-state, too.

Oh, but if you’re gonna pay OOS tuition, yeah, look at some of the private schools. I wonder if you could get into Pitzer? You’d probably dig it if you like LB, even though it doesn’t have a beach.

The best way to determine your chances is to 1) calculate your CSU/UC capped weighted GPA. Since you only took 1 AP class, you will only get 2 extra honors points in the calculation.
https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Plug your SAT and CSU/UC capped weighted GPA into this eligibility index formula:
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW)

If you are applying as a STEM major, they have another Eligibility index calculation that puts more emphasis on your SAT Math score.
(CSU GPA X 600) + SAT Critical Reading + (2 X SAT Math).

Since you are OOS, an EI of 4000+ can make you a competitive applicant but there are not guarantees. Make sure you applied widely. Best of luck.

GPA is marginal for this school but usually flies for most departments. SAT score isn’t bad but its not giving you much push, either. Out of state. The deck is stacked against you, so LB might be a bit of a long shot. Definitely worth a shot, however. Good Luck.

@jesse’sgirl where did your son apply, and where was he accepted? Where did he finally end up going? The waiting is the hardest part!
