I’m a rising junior who’s just moved to the US from Aus and am originally from Zimbabwe. My GPA is 3.85 weighted*. I haven’t taken SATS yet but I think I’ll get around 1480-1520ish. I am a fantastic writer! I’m taking 3 APs this year and the rest honours and then 4 APS next year. I’m going to do national honour society, model un, debate, key club and Russian club. I didn’t do any languages in Australia bc they weren’t offered, but in my few months of moving I taught myself Russian and will also be taking Spanish at school. I went to a catholic school before and now I’ll be going to a magnet blue ribbon high school. I won a lot of religion awards at my old school (Georgetown is catholic). What are my chances?!
Georgetown is Catholic but your religious awards probably won’t impact admissions that much on their own, since they’re looking for top students above any religious reasons. That being said, I think it would make for a great essay topic. Your GPA is kind of low, and you’ll probably have to do better than your projected SAT to cover up for that. The languages will be helpful if you intend on applying for SFS; they like to see language and international interest. Courseload and ECs are pretty standard, so I would make sure to use the essay prompts to emphasize your unique background.
You have some unique and interesting things going for you. I think in your specific case, Why Georgetown? is going to be very important. If you can articulate what you’ll contribute and why you are a good fit, I’d say your chances are better than even.
SFS is exactly what I want to apply for!!
I want Georgetown because it is the best in the country for international affairs , and I want to be a diplomat
Don’t forget that you also need 3 SAT Subject tests with good scores to assure a good chance at admissions.
