I'm an asian girl in California, which probably does a lot for the UCs.

I received the top score at our school for first year students, and fourth overall, on the American Chemical Society's National Chemistry olympiad. I think that's when I decided to pursue chemistry. I TA for the chemistry AP teacher right now, and I tutor some of the students.

I have over 350 hours volunteering at the local hospital, and 40 hours working with the land conservancy.

I don't know if it helps or not, but I play the tuba in orchestra, and was saxophone section leader and a vice president in marching band. I did community orchestra for 3 years, also on the tuba.

Does being a semifinalist count for anything? I read somewhere that UCs aren't recognizing it because it is considered "racially biased"?
