what are my chances at ucs...

Would you guys please tell me [realistically] of what my chances are at these schools?

UCLA
UC Berkeley
UCSD
Lehigh
Carnegie Mellon
Rice
Bucknell

I'm an asian girl in California, which probably does a lot for the UCs.

I have a 4.46 weighted GPA, 3.76 unweighted. I think it is lower, mainly because of my Bs, and my regular English classes.

My intended major is chemical engineering.

My SAT I scores are
760 Math
730 Critical reading
650 Writing (does that hurt much?)

And SAT II
720 Math IIC (... wtvr)
790 Chemistry

9th grade
Geometry H B/B
English 1H B/A
Biology 1H A/A
Health/Drivers Ed A/A
Marching Band A/A
Japanese 1 A/A

10th grade
Algebra 2 H B/B
English 2H B/A
Chemistry 1H A/A
World History A/A
Psychology A (only 1 semester)
Japanese 2 A/A
Marching Band A/A
US History A/A

11th grade
Trignometry H/Precalculus H A/A
English 3 A/A
Chemistry 2 AP A/A [5]
Environmental Science A/A [5]
Japanese 3H B/A
Marching Band A/A
Government A
Economics A

Right now, I am taking
Calculus BC AP
English 4
Physics C AP
Biology 2 AP
Advanced Orchestra

I received the top score at our school for first year students, and fourth overall, on the American Chemical Society's National Chemistry olympiad. I think that's when I decided to pursue chemistry. I TA for the chemistry AP teacher right now, and I tutor some of the students.

I have over 350 hours volunteering at the local hospital, and 40 hours working with the land conservancy.

I don't know if it helps or not, but I play the tuba in orchestra, and was saxophone section leader and a vice president in marching band. I did community orchestra for 3 years, also on the tuba.

Does being a semifinalist count for anything? I read somewhere that UCs aren't recognizing it because it is considered "racially biased"?

A semifinalist in what? Speed knitting? Explain.

You sound really good for UCLA and Berkeley. Oh, and the 720 in the SAT II Math IIc might be REALLY good. What's the percentile score on it?

Semifinalist for the National Merit/PSAT thingy.

And the math IIC was terrible. 66%. I think I should retake.

Do you have suggestions for other schools, that are not in middle america, for chemical engineering?

Cooper Union and MIT are good ideas.

MIT and Harvey Mudd are quite out of my ability. I didn't even take post-calc yet.

Post-calc? Psh. I know people who got into MIT with only Calc BC.

Don't discount yourself just yet.

moldau:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match

anyone know about the non-UCs then?

3.76 is your GPA that colleges will look at. That's your GPA in your academic classes.

bump

anyone?

i dont see why people like you are in such a worry, lolz, i mean your like almost for sure into l.a. and berkeley and probably, maybe caltech, i hear caltech is supposedly lowering its standards by a little bit, well anyways you're set, other people are in a situation where they can only hit like 1700 on their sat and their so crapped on college , they'll like shoot themselves if they dont even get into like ucsb, lolz, i just see that with all these smart people, its so much of a brag, i think others would agree

I wouldn't lolz it up quite yet. While her stats are good/great, they're by no means guaranteed admissions to UCLA. I don't think anyone has that.

i think it's very certain she will be accepted, on the other hand, im interested to know what your philosophy and opinion of the uc system are, please discuss freely
