Hello, I am currently a Senior in HS and was wondering what my chances are at UW Seattle. I have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.8 and cumulative weighted GPA of 3.9. I feel that my GPA is good but my ACT is low for UW from what I have researched for UW. I see that the average ACT is around 26 but will what are the chances that a low ACT of 24 will affect my chances at UW? My essays are really good. I am planning on majoring in nursing and I’m an out of state student form CA. Thank you!

Here is some information to help you assess your chances:
According to the Common Data Set, these factors are “very important” in the UW’s admission decisions:
Academic GPA
Application essay
Rigor of secondary school record
These factors are “important”:
Extracurricular activities
First generation college student
Standardized test scores
Talent/ability
Volunteer work
Work experience
These factors are “considered”:
Character/personal qualities
State residency
The 2017-2018 Common Data Set reports the middle 50% ACT range of enrolled freshmen was 27-32.
The 2018-2019 Common Data Set has not been published, but according to a Seattle Times article a few months ago, the 2018 enrolled freshmen (vs. 2017) averages were as follows:
Unweighted GPA: 3.8 (3.79)
SAT Math: 685 (657)
SAT Reading and Writing: 644 (629)
ACT Composite: 29 (28)
Keep up the good work, and good luck!
Be sure to submit both your high school and your community college transcripts so that your senior year doesn’t look light. I’m also worried about your apparent lack of chemistry. They have a good admissions information overview here https://nursing.uw.edu/prospective/visit/bsn/
I’m actually taking a chemistry course over at a community college over the spring
The other thing to ask your self is how you feel about going to a school where you’ll have to do a couple years of prerequisites then compete for a spot in your major versus one where you’d be assured a spot from freshman year.
One thing is, that if you get into UW, you still have to get into nursing. Since you are not in calc, you will have to do a few more pre-reqs than you’re competition would have to.
