I am a high school senior and I just applied to UVA early decision. I am in-state and have legacy, however my stats are on the low end. I have a 4.0 W gpa and 1400 superscore SAT. I was involved in extracurriculars and founded a volunteer organization my sophomore year. I am also not top 10% of my class and am from NOVA. Do I have a chance?
This is going to be a strange year I think. Applications are way up lots of places that have gone test optional. In contrast, applications to the Florida state schools are way down because they are requiring tests. I know at UGA applications went up 25 percent but only half submitted test scores. For those without test scores, it is one less data point for comparison. No one outside admissions offices knows the real impact. What is your unweighted GPA? All schools weight differently so it is easier to compare unweighted vs weighted because that means something different in many schools.
My unweighted is around a 3.6
You’re definitely on the low end of the admissions spectrum. Being in-state, legacy, and ED will help for sure. If your essays are very good, you have a chance.
Which school at UVA have you applied to? At UVA College of Arts and Sciences admit more students than other schools like Engineering. Acceptance to some schools is more selective than others as they admit fewer kids.
I applied to the college of arts and sciences.
I had around the same scores (slightly higher weighted GPA), was in-state, and applied to the College of Arts and Sciences. Sadly I didn’t get in, but I think it was because of my ECs and essay. My bro who goes to UVA said that my chances were around 20% and could go up or down based on my ECs and essay, so I would give you around the same chance. Keep in mind that-- given the circumstances of this year-- that chance could vary drastically.
The admission data is broken down by school and residency on the UVA website. Engineering isn’t more selective than the college and hasn’t been for a while.
