What are my chances for Carnegie Mellon and University of Michigan

Hey guys, I am an IB student, graduating class of 2014. I have already received my predicted grade and it is 39. The subjects i have are

Math HL - 6
Chem SL - 7
Phys SL - 6
Eng Land & Lit A HL - 7
Jap B SL - 6
Econ HL - 6
1 bonus point

Ethnicity: Indian

And i have taken the SAT's, i dont do well on them and my score is 1850. I am applying for economics, so i am assuming it wont be as competitive. My extra curricular activities are as followed:

EC
- Student Representative
- Yearbook
- Cross Country Second place
- Internship at a firm
- MUN (Secretary General)
- youngest member of an Event Organization committee that hosts city wide events
- Soccer
- School Math Team
I am sure there are more but i can't think of any for now. Anyways please let me know what my chances are and also where my GPA would stand, because we are an IB school so i have no clue what my GPA is.

I believe the 39 is very good.

However, the 1850 is not good enough. Both reaches.

Both are low reaches because of your SATs. Try applying to schools like Northeastern, NYU, or Tulane or small, LACs. Still, you might get in. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1586584-chance-me-some-schools.html

hey. I think you have a good chance coz 39 is a good score. I heard that IB is very challenging and getting a 36 itself is very difficult.

but your SAT is lower than average for those schools. You could have done better. Maybe u should try once more and aim for a higher SAT (maybe 2000+)

You have a good shot but just aim your SAT score towards a 2100+ and you’re good to go (:

What is your GPA? Idk much about Carnegie Mellon, but for UofM, you will need a 3.8 or higher. But, the IB diploma is def a plus b/c UofM really likes the IB diploma.
And as everyone said, your SAT is pretty weak. If you don’t think you will improve on the SAT, why don’t you take the ACT? UofM looks more at the ACT anyways, and who knows maybe you are an ACT person. Try to aim for a 30+.
Since UofM is a state school, you need to focus more on your stats, b/c at a state school your EC’s can only be as good as ur stats.
