What are my chances for Phillips Andover?

I am an 8th grader girl who lives in Andover, Massachusetts. I moved to Andover from South Korea in sixth grade. I literally go pass the PA campus every day and it’s been my dream to go there since sixth grade. I would greatly appreciate if you guys can drop any recommendation or advice!! So here’s where I am so far:

SSAT:

My first test is on 10/15. I am so nervous about it since my practice SSAT scores tend to be irregular sometimes.
On my most recent practice test, I got a 97%.
Math- always above 795
Reading- my worst section, 720-760(yikes)
Verbal- 690-800

I’m trying to increase my lexicon, but I’m so busy I can barely memorize 10 words a day.
The reading section has always been hard for me because I tend to get slow and I always get hesitant over two similar answers.

SCHOOL:

Not to be braggy, but I get all A+s in class.
I am in advanced math, which is the only honors class available in Andover public middle schools.
I am pretty sociable, so I have good relationships with my teachers(hopefully a good recommendation!!!)

EXTRA-CURRICULAR:

 1. School Orchestra, 3 years, Head Concert Master
 2. Math team, 3 years, Team Captain (team is in 1st place in the district)
 3. Musical/play, 3 years, pitband(piano)
 4. Violin, 3-4 years
 5. Cross Country, 2 years
 6. Track & Field, 1 year
 7. Student Mentor Program(we tutor and play with elementary school kids), 2 years, Student director/leader
 8. Ironstone Farm Therapy Program(Therapy working with horses and people with disabilities), 1 year, 5 hours a week
 9. Student Government, 2 years

INTERVIEW:

Didn’t have it yet, and it’s the part I’m worried about the most. If there are any alumni out there please enlighten me with some tips!! I know that it’s basically a conversation, but I’m nervous for the questions they are going to ask. I really want to leave a good impression to them.

So I guess this explains my status! I really really hope to be a part of PA Class of 2021; I would appreciate any advice and recommendations!! Thanks!

I will pm you about the interview

If you get your SSAT scores above the 85th percentile in each of the subscores you should be fine. The ECs look fairly typical for an Asian student. You will be facing a lot of other competition from students all over the world with similar profiles.

Are you applying as a day student? Are your cross country times enough to make varsity? What about track? It wouldn’t hurt to approach the PA coach.

@sgopal2 I am applying as a day student, and our xc and track team r just from the Andover youth service programs so I don’t think so. Many people told me to reach out the PA coaches and math teachers often, but I just don’t know how to.

Well, Andover’s website lists contact information. Here is the girls CX info and here is the math department. Good luck.

Thanks! @skieurope

I am also applying for PA Class of 2021! I wish you the best of luck! (I live near Andover)

Same!! I am applying for fall 2017 as a freshman at Andover-I live in New York so I will be a boarding student though!!

My practice ISEE r mostly all 80-90 percentiles so I have been studying a lot-my extracurriculars r not very typical Japanese person though. I play the saxophone and like the arts which is unusual for my athnesity
