I just finished my sophomore year of high school and will be a junior next year. I go to a small public high school in New Jersey and my class size is 160. I have taken the most rigorous courses available at my school and as of now have all A's on my transcript. However, I do have a few A-'s. The grading scale is 90-92 (A-), 93-96 (A), 97-100 (A+). Due to a scheduling conflict I was unable to take a foreign language class (Spanish) my sophomore year and therefore will be unable to take AP Spanish my senior year. However, I took two science classes (Honors Chemistry and AP Biology) my sophomore year instead and will do so again my junior year for a total of 6 full year advanced science courses. In my school, you have to take Honors Chemistry before AP, Honors Bio before AP, etc. My GPA as of now is a 4.352 weighted, and my school does not have unweighted GPAs. However, a 4.3 is the equivalent of an A+ in a college prep class, so I believe I have a 4.0 unweighted. My school does not rank but I know I am in the top 10% and somewhere in the top 5. So far my extracurriculars are concert band and marching band. This is a very big deal, considering we have one of the best bands in the state/country and it is a huge commitment. I hope to be section leader my senior year. I also earned my varsity letter for basketball this year and was JV captain. I received my varsity letter for high jump, and I just started doing track this year. My PSAT score, without studying at all, is a 2160, with an 800 in writing, 670 in critical reading and 690 in math. With all I learned sophomore year and will learn junior year and with adequate studying, these scores should shoot up. I scored a 750 on the Bio M subject test this year and am waiting for my AP score for that course. I am part of a teen volunteer program at the zoo and assist there with the summer camps and serve about 75 hours each summer. I also have a paid job at a local theater camp as a counselor's assistant as well. I will be participating in the selective peer leadership program at my school my junior and senior years and will probably join the math team or run for student council. I placed second in my school for the AMC 12 math competition my sophomore year. Other admissions advantages would probably be that I am a female in STEM and will be taking AP Physics. I also have a legacy advantage at Cornell (where my dad went to school). So now that you have read all of these boring facts, what else can I do on my path to college to make myself stand out? I want to do things because I enjoy them though, not just to get in to college. Also - help me stop stressing! I know I will be just fine but some of these schools are so selective! What other EC's can I do in the field of science/math?
