Hello! I am a California resident currently living in Cairo Egypt, where I have resided for 13 years. I went to a high school called Cairo American College and I graduated in June 2011. I am currently taking a gap year, and I am deferred at Pratt Institute, but I am hoping to be admitted to Davidson College.
I have been doing extensive genealogical research and I have found that Colonel William Lee Davidson is my direct ancestor, him being my great great great great great great great great grandfather. I found that Davidson College of North Carolina was built in his name. I thoroughly investigated the school, and found it to be a great match for me. And on top of that, I would be honoring my distant grandfather by going there.

I am set on attending Davidson College. Last year I applied to CSU Fullerton, Platt College San Diego, CSU Long Beach, Old Dominion University, Pace University, and Pratt Institute. I got into every school, except for San Diego State.
I got into Pratt Institute with a partial scholarship, so I decided on a whim to defer my admission there for a year and go in the fall 2012.

I completed my higher level classes with above average scores. I also went through the Egyptian revolution. If there are scholarships I can apply for, I want to apply for the pepper visual arts scholarship. I also completed my last seasons of water polo and swimming as captain, and we won our tournaments in both. I hope to continue swimming at Davidson for their womens competitive team.

Cumulative high school GPA : 3.04
SAT: 1580
Higher Level IB/AP Classes:
IB HL Drawing & Painting with an IB score of 6
AP Literature & Composition with an AP score of 4

Captain of Varsity Swimming
Captain of Varsity Water polo
Record breaststroke swimmer in ISST Tournament
Yearbook Editor in Chief
I would write my essay about the Egyptian revolution and how it had an impact on the middle eastern world, through personal experience.
So what are my chances of applying to Davidson College as an Art History major? It is a very hard school to get into, and my stats are not quite up to the standard I have realized. But do you think my relative relation to William lee Davidson, my art history major and test scores, as well as my diverse background will help me get in?

Thanks so much, Rachel
