What are my chances getting into these colleges?

Hey all, I'm a new member of college confidential.
I've used this website numerous times for sources and new information.
I've benefited from this website and thought I could join up with the others.

I'm still shaky on what colleges I want to go to, and the colleges I am going to list are big colleges.

To me, I am big on improvement. I want to say this without being cocky but I've done a good job at least for my standards, and my parents.

I really didn't start thinking about colleges and my future until mid-sophomore and started thinking about how much I screwed up. (To be honest, I didn't even know what colleges were for until the end of 9th grade)

So these are my activities and scores.

Marching Band - 4 yrs
Debate - 1 yr
Youth Group leader - 4 yrs
Church missions to St. Louis - 3 yrs
NHS - got accepted senior year

To be honest, i didn't do much activities and I COMPLETELY regret it.... I wish I would've done a sport in the winter/spring cause I love physical activity.

SAT score : 1630
ACT Score - 27 to 31
Writing - 8 to 10
TOEFL - 108
I'm going to take the math 2 subject test in nov.8. I got 680 last time and am aiming for 800.
GPA - I'm not too sure but since i got invited to NHS. i have above a 3.850 GPA on a 4 point scale.

I took 1 honors in fresh
2 honors in sophomore
1 ap and 3 honors in junior
4 ap and 2 honors as a senior

Colleges I might/going to apply to

University of Maryland
Penn state
Pitt
U of M
UC Santa Barbra
V Tech
and other colleges im still thinking of. (Also major in engineering, still haven't decided what field.)

Also in my essays i'm going to emphasize my failures and the improvements i made.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. :)

All those you’ve listed, you have an okay shot at. As you probably know, your SAT/ACT and ECs are pulling you back. Nothing you can do about ECs now, and ACT isn’t too bad. I’d say match-high match for everything on your list.

Good luck!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690007-claremont-mckenna-duke-bucknell-grinnell-uofr-chances.html

UCSB: Low Reach (SAT low)

While I don’t know for sure but you are mid-low reaches for most of these schools. However, being from Cali I see a ton of people apply to UCSB every year and I can tell you that your stats are low for someone going for engineering. If you are out of state that might help you but UCSB will be a low-mid reach as of rn since most kids who go there for engineering around me have 4+ and highers test score than yours. But the UC system is very inconsistent and that could help you very much.

Chance me please?

Your SAT score is just too low.

Is that your predicted ACT? Or do you now have a 31?

Do you have a green card or are you undocumented? What is your home state?

In another thread, you lament that you’re not a citizen, that you live here, and you’re worried about aid. If you are undocumented, that will be an issue.

Either way, those OOS publics will not be affordable. They don’t give enough aid to OOS students. Your family would be expected to pay all or nearly all costs. Your instate school may also not be affordable. Tell us more about your situation.

What do you mean by ACT 27-31?
Don’t send your SAT score in any case.
What’s in-state for you? Are you a citizen/permanent resident, are you here on a visa, are you undocumented?
For the schools you’re aiming for/where you have a shot, your ECs are fine.

@aunt bea yeah I’m aware. I’m not going to send those scores. @Mom2collegekids Yes, I have a 31 right now.
@MYOS1634 , I took the test twice, first score was 27, second score was 31

31 is a very good score. If you can retake once more and get to 32, you’d access a LOT of scholarships. That 1-point difference could mean thousands of dollars in scholarship money so think about it.

What’s in-state for you?
Are you a citizen/permanent resident, are you here on a visa, are you undocumented?
(this isn’t to judge you or anything but simply because different states and different colleges have different policies depending on your legal status).
What’s your parents’ budget?
This will greatly affect our recommendations.
