What are my chances ? HELP

Ok . . Here is my situation: I am a half Hispanic boy in my junior year that just found out he is in the 3rd Quartile! I need help and ideas on what to do! If you have any good SAT study guides pls post link. Also what do you think are my chances of getting into UT or UTSA with my current circumstances and what would be my chances of getting into those schools with a very high sat score and my current situatio? Pls help!!

Ps: my freshman year I was in football and wrestling AND I was depressed and suicidal and could probably write the s h i t out of a sob story. Consider those when evaluating me. Remember UT & UTSA

Peace ( to the world. )

Um . . hello ?

You need to collegeboard’s SAT practice book

What is your current GPA

What classes are you taking and will you take?

This thread will likely get move to the Chances forum.

Bumppppp .

How about answering the lady before bumping?

My GPA is a 90 :frowning:
and I take some advanced courses I am not sure if I want to be a psychologist or a Talent Agent.

Bumpzors ,

Have you gone to the bookstore (or Amazon) to buy Collegeboard’s SAT practice book? If not, I suggest you do.

Having a practice book is better than an online practice. You take a practice book with you anytime you think you might have some down time (like sitting in a dentist’s office.)

Work as hard a possible this year to improve grades. Colleges like to see an “upward trend” in grades to overcome a lowish GPA.

However, your GPA isn’t too low to get you into some fine schools. But, it will help to improve your GPA.

Don’t count on an essay to overcome any shortcomings gradewise.

Work hard this year, and you’ll get into a good school. :)

If you live in Texas, there is no way you’re gonna get into UT. Remember the top 10% rule that’s in effect, so that shuts this door for you. BUT, the better news is that UTSA should be easier for you to be accepted. Here is some advice that you may or may not want to use:
*Texas uses a 90-100=A system, so convert your grades to that when converting to a 4.0 scale and submit your GPA that way. Ask your counselor how your high school submits grades.
*Try your hand at the ACT. Some people do better on it than on the SAT and nearly every college will accept that instead of the SAT. Who knows? Maybe you’ll do a lot better on the ACT.
*Don’t quit studying hard and learn all you can. Remember: it ain’t over 'til the decisions are rendered, so keep on learning.
*You don’t want to write an essay that’s a sob story, tempting though that may be. It’s a better idea to show how a bad situation made you a better person. I’m a 2-time cancer survivor who included it in my essays but focused on how cancer changed me for the better, which it really did.
*Remember that depression is scary to colleges and for a very good reason: some kids went wacko and killed people. You won’t (and YOU know that) but universities can’t take chances and if they admitted a student they knew had mental health issues and that student went off the deep end, the school could be sued. Worth considering.
Best of luck to you!!! :)

Man, a 90 GPA is in the 3rd quartile! Talk about grade inflation.

Yeah that was a bad choice of words on my part with sob story I meant it changed me how you said it. Alright if UT is not an option for me straight out of highschool does any one know about the process of going to UTSA for 4 semesters then you can transfer to UT does any body have any more info on this?

Bump bump bump it up.
