I am a male from new york. I know these are all pretty low, but i thought i might just throw it out there. ok.
My GPA is a 3.3 unweighted.
and a 3.6 weighted so far.
i will have 11 aps by the time i'm finished with high school.
my SAT is a 2160.
BUT. I have done research at Columbia for two years now and i a got an award from the seimans competition for my work. The work i have done there is mainly at the graduate level. I also tap dance and help rase money for underprivileged kids in Queens by performing with a dance company every year. The annual fundraiser makes over ten-thousand dollars. Its very rewarding... I have tap danced since elementary school. I also have a ton of other extra cerrics, but there are the two most important ones. I have always wondered how those kids with my gpa and sat scores get into Princeton- are they ALL legacies?

oh and i'm not white- and my parents were refugees which makes for a pretty cool application essay. not that they would care about my parents much. but it would make me "interesting" i guess and would add "diversity." i guess.

oh and in addition to the seiman's westinghouse award.. i have an AP scholar award and a national merit thing too- only a commended scholar. damn them- i missed it by one question.

Can you tell us more about the SPECIFIC grades you received in your ACADEMIC CORE subjects? Most people on CC have no idea how to compute a GPA.

Well, your grades seem to be a little low. But your extracurriculars seem amazing! (Not to mention your family's background.) In your application, highlight your passion which appears to be your dancing and research. Don't pad it with unnecesary things. If they see that you are passionate and have done a lot of work on the side, they may forgive the lower grades. By the way, are you URM?

Note: If you're going to write about your parents being refugees, make your that the essay is about you. It needs to say something about who you are. For instance, you could write about their experience and how it has affected you or how it has affected your life.

(Also, would you mind chancing me as well? I'm the one labeled Cookies for Chances. =])

oh. just figured it out. underrepresented minority. epiphany! I don't know if middle easterners are really considered "underrepresented," i think we might actually be over-represented... but i don't know.

You show achievements that are exemplary. If you are a minority and have problems in school it can be attributed to your family background. This can be explained. You should submit a personal resume about yourself as supplementary material. This is where shows what you are academically.

If I understand things OBAMA didn't have the greatest grades at Columbia but he got admitted to Harvard Law School, which is probably the most prestigious in the countryl

It's worth to pay 70 dollars of application fee right? If you stop feeling pathetic, and become more confident, you can do it. Self-esteem is important guys. Universities look for leaders, not pathetics. And unless you're mentally challenged, you shouldn't regard yourself as "pathetic."
