What are my chances? I'll chance back!

Hi,

I am a current high senior. I'm applying to Johns Hopkins University, SUNY Binghamton, Wesleyan University, Roanoke College, Manhattan College, Harvard, and Yale. I've already been accepted to Roanoke College and have been deferred by Yale. What are my chances of getting into the schools I applied to?

GPA: 100.8 (out of 100)
Class Rank: 4/593
School Type: Public
Senior course load: RCC (course taken to get credit through local community college) Political Science, RCC Economics, Italian 5, AP English Language and Composition, AP BC Calculus, Health (mandatory), AP Chemistry .....pretty much the hardest courses a senior can take in my school

Previous AP Scores: US History 5, AP Literature and Composition 4
ACT: 31 (31 English/ 32 Math/ 28 Reading/ 31 Science/ 10 Essay)
SAT I: N/A
SAT II: Math I 740, Math II 770, US History 730

EC's: co-founder and President of Italian Club, Cross Country, Varsity Track and Field (winter and spring), Math League, National Honor Society, President of Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Science Honor Society, English Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, tutor math for free once a week

Community Service:volunteer at a summer reading program for elementary school children, volunteer occasionally at food pantry

Race: Hispanic
Gender: Female
Intended Major: Mathematics and Computer Science
Recommendations: One was from my running coach that I've had since the 8th grade and the other was from my Precalc teacher who loved me so I guess they were pretty good
Essays: supplement essays were different and well-written. I had several people read them over and I got positive feedback. CommonApp essay was controversial but again, well-written...
Additional Information: I am not pursuing athletics in college, first-generation college student, I had interviews for both Harvard and Yale

I think you have excellent chances. Harvard and Yale are iffy with anyone but you’ve got the odds in your favor. Good luck! Chance back, please:)

thanks! just chanced you :)

Hopkins, Harvard, and Yale are high reaches. Your ACT is subpar for their averages, but I’m not familiar with your GPA scale to tell you if it’s competitive. Your EC’s are impersonal and not focused, but you at least have one leadership position.

As for your essays, different is good. Be careful about controversial though. It could be good or bad. I had a friend write about atheism for his common app and it was well-written. Despite being Hispanic and having a 36 on his ACT and tons of ECs focused on Comp Sci, he got deferred from MIT. I think his essay might have played a role in that, so don’t alienate your adcom.

You are an URM, so that will play a part. I think you do have a shot at all these schools, despite some of them being reaches.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1256342-chance-me-wharton-harvard-columbia-etc.html

Hopkins is not a high reach, imo, but a low reach or even a high match. Your SAT score is the one that will be considered. Your rank and URM status, along with good ECs, will make you a competitive applicant at at JHU.

I know I’m part of a lot of honor societies but at my school, everyone is. It’s not that joining makes you unfocused. We get pushed to join every honor society in our school that we qualify for.

Johns Hopkins University - Low/Mid Reach
SUNY Binghamton - Safety
Wesleyan University - Match/Low Reach
Manhattan College - Safety
Harvard - High Reach
Yale - High Reach

You definitely have a shot at all of them though.

That’s not what I meant by unfocused. I meant that your passion just doesn’t come through from that list, although it might from your essays.
