what are my chances at getting into this school? I really want to join
@Laerze Being honest, a 2.2 GPA isn’t going to be much help since the average GPA for admitted applicants is probably somewhere in the 3.2-3.7 range and if you’re trying to get into the more rigorous Colleges: Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Carlson School of Business that average is even higher. The other 4 colleges are a little lower and sit near that 3.2-3.7 average range most likely. UMN’s acceptance rate is also below 46% so not everyone gets in and it’s rigorous.
I might suggest you work hard your senior year and finish strong on your junior year! It’s the most important year that admissions looks at from what I’ve been told. So, really focus on your classes, talk to your counselor and see if they can vouch for your academic abilities, and study well for the ACT or SAT which will help balance out your gpa. Have you taken rigorous courses in school and have you been involved? UMN is a diverse school and they love seeing that diversity on your application!
If you need anymore information there’s loads of forum responses here or just reply on this one and myself or others will get back to you.
thank you and yes, Im participating in robotics currently, and i’m taking 3 ap classes.
Zero. @henxnr is creating an expectation of false hope (not intentionally). Start at a different college and maybe try transferring after a year at least with exceptional grades if you still feel you want to attend. The community colleges are excellent choices to get better grades. If you did get in at that point, keep in mind you’d be taking classes mostly with kids who have received almost all A’s and some B’s in high school, is that the type of peers you want in class if you do not strive to do the same?
I would concur with the response of “Zero”. There was and may still be a program at U of M - Twin Cities where you can attend one of several local community colleges, earn a minimum of something like 27 credits, have a minimum of something like a 2.7 GPA, and automatically gain admittance as a transfer students. You might want to call admissions for transfer students and find out about if this program still exists and get the details. If there still is such a program, could you let us know? Thanks.
