What are my chances? Does ED2 help more than RD? Thanks!

Hi! I’d say you have a pretty fair shot. Your resume seems to be well rounded, have a very strong variation of extra-curriculars, and you are definitely strong academically. Applying ED2 will for sure give you a stronger chance, but don’t apply ED if you aren’t 100% certain that BU is your top choice or you think you might have issues financially if you were to get accepted ED. I think you have a great shot but don’t force ED2 if you aren’t positive about BU!

While I agree with the earlier poster about your solid ECs and background, don’t think that necessarily translates to acceptance. If you check the latest common data set of BU, under section C I believe, where they detail the criteria for selections, the most important consideration is academic rigor. So you have to think of the relatively lower gpa and whatever scores you have gotten in your AP tests. If you mostly have 5s in the AP tests that may compensate for the gpa and make you academically competitive. Also not having the standardized test scores makes it even more unpredictable. What will be the major you will be applying to? How popular is BU in your high school, how many may be applying and the competition from your own school?

If you check the other thread for BU ed 1, there was someone with a 4.0 gpa and no standardized test scores that got deferred to RD.

The acceptance rates for ED 1/2 is around 30% and drops to under 20% for RD. But one may still have an advantage if applied to EDs and deferred since during RD demonstrated interest counts, which is also an important factor for BU.

So better have plan B if things don’t work out in ED2, if you decide to go for it.

BU’s class of 2024 acceptance rate was 18.5% (not sure how that breaks out between ED and RD rounds)…with an acceptance rate of less than 20%, BU is a reach for all. Your GPA is also below their average matriculant GPA of 3.7 (2019/20 CDS)

Have you run BU’s net price calculator? If so, is the estimated COA affordable? https://npc.collegeboard.org/app/bu
