What are my chances into these schools?

College apps are almost due and I’m applying to:
UC Riverside
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
UC Santa Cruz
UC Santa Barbara
UC Davis
Cal Poly SLO
San Jose State University
Chapman University
University of Washington, Seattle

Weighted GPA: 3.21
SAT Score: 1080
SAT Essay: 5/4/5
ACT: 30
I am not the brightest student but everyone has told me to at least try. My grades and scores don’t look to good because of the loss I have had and it affected my academics. I might attend my local city college and transfer but I really want to attend a 4-year university after I graduate. Let me know if you heard of any “Miracle Acceptances” into these schools with low grades and scores.
PLEASE DON’T JUDGE. I KNOW MY DREAMS ARE WAY WAY HIGH BUT I GET FREE WAIVERS SO I’M JUST GOING TO TRY.

Honestly, you are going to need to go the CC route. Maybe San Jose State.

A chance thread is by definition judging your chances.

@angelawong: If you have free waivers and want to attend a 4 year university, then why not put them to good use and apply to realistic schools. Your GPA and SAT score are low for the majority of schools on your list. Your ACT is on target for several but will not make up for a less competitive GPA.

SJSU may be possible depending upon intended major and if you are a local applicant. I suggest you consider less competitive Cal States for the best chances at a 4 year college. Sonoma, San Francisco State, Sac State, Monterey Bay, East Bay, Stanislaus, Dominguez Hills and Channel Islands could all be possible.

Regarding the UC’s, they do consider your EC’s and essays as part of their application review but GPA and test scores are very important and they are on the low side for all the UC’s you have on your list.

Here is the UC admit rates based on UC capped weighted GPA and not major specific to give you an idea of how unrealistic your chances may be. For the UC’s, you want your stats at or above the 50th percentile.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39

UCB/UCLA/UCSD: 1%
UCI/UCSB: 2%
UCD: 4%
UCSC: 18%
UCR: 38%
UCM: 67%

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCB: 1280-1490

UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1290-1450
UCD: 1190-1430
UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230

25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-34
UCLA: 30-34
UCSD: 29-34
UCSB: 28-33
UCD: 26-32
UCI: 26-32
UCSC: 26-31
UCR: 23-30
UCM: 20-27

You should redo your list so you have some good options come spring. A community college could always be your backup.
Best of luck.

In your other post, you state that you have a 1410 SAT and that you “fixed” your F in math to a “B”.
So which is it?
If you aren’t truthful, people can’t truthfully answer your question.
I think you need to redo your list and focus on instate schools that will accept both your GPA and whatever your current test scores are.
The Cal States are good schools. You would be applying for your education, not for prestige nor DREAMS.
I think most of the UC’s would be a challenge because you have some difficulty with certain courses.
Remember that the UC courses are on the quarter systems at most of the UC’s.
That means you only have 10 weeks to get strong grades, then you move on to the next course. With your history, and the competitiveness of current students, I think it would be hard.
