What are my chances looking like at Texas A&M?

-3.641 GPA
-class rank 35/306
-sat composite(math+reading) 1060
-in multiple extracurricular activities (NHS, Student Council, Ect.)
-Awarded Texas High School Football academic all state
-have family that went there
-applied in August

Does anybody know when I should expect to hear back from TAMU, or if I will even get in?

TAMU: High match

Highly unlikely… you are not in the top 10%, your GPA is not very good, and your SAT is average at best.

Well I’m 4 people from the top 10% and my gpa just went from 3.641 to a 3.7, but it was past the due date to send in for the fall. I called them and they told me that in the review category they are looking for a well rounded student. So I really think I’m looking pretty solid except for my sat. Do y’all think it will be the deal-breaker?

And I forgot to say that I have 80+ community service hours. And was on multiple varsity sports since freshman year

Your SAT scores are too low. Texas A&M would be high match to low reach.

Aim for 26+ on the ACT if you elect to take the ACT.

outside of the top 10% there is no rhyme of reason to know how they select candidates…same with UT-Austin.

I thought UF was the one school that had no rhyme of reason as to how to select candidates…

not according to my daughters college counselor (in Texas - FYI). She has told us on more than one occasion that they have no idea how A&M or UT admits outside the top 10%. They even speculate that they just pull applications randomly because there is no logic to the process.

I mean, shouldn’t they have some sort of system, because I am so close… In the top 11%. Shouldn’t that count for something, I know my sat scores aren’t the best but I have read that a&m looks for leaders in their community and I feel like I have shown that to some degree. I’m not a stupid person, I’m just not good at SAT/ACT. Maybe they would have that when they are making their decision?

And my school district split into 2 different high schools my freshman year, I was in the top 4% in a class of 700 but then I moved to my current school (Burleson Centennial) which has the better half of the class. I know that sounds bad to say but our curriculum is twice as hard as most of the public schools around us. Is there some sort of ranking system of how hard the school Is compared to the other schools in the area?

Yup, retake the SAT- Assuming you’re at around a 1600 now. Try for 15% increase. An 1840 score should get you where you need to be.

And does anybody know If I would be looking good to qualify for Blinn TEAM?

I don’t think any new scores would count for admissions since it is past the due date (Jan 15)? And I also have been involved with TAMU admissions prep. I went to an admissions seminar in Arlington and have visited the campus twice. Does anybody know if they keep record of that and if it will contribute to my chances?

If you took a scheduled campus tour and they have your name down as having visited, then that is good. If they did the same thing at the admissions seminar, that is good as well. It shows interest. But if you just visited the campus and walked around by yourself then the school has no knowledge of it.

No, it was a scheduled tour. They have my name down. Actually I’ve taken a tour of the campus more than once.

I changed my mind… I think your chances are better than my first negative post. I would say 50-50.

Yeah I Mean I’ve honestly done everything I can except the whole SAT score thing. I’ve really committed myself to trying to become an aggie

Did you end up getting in??
