University of Washington is my top school and I hope to double major in Astronomy and Physics.
I am a very high achieving student but throughout high school I struggled with depression and as a result my grades suffered. My weighted GPA is a 3.7 and my unweighted is a 3.3. I go to an extremely academically rigorous school (2nd in state) but I am an out of state resident. My SAT is 1510 and I am a National Merit Scholar because my PSAT was a 1440. My extra curriculars are not very impressive; I am forced to spend a lot of time with family commitments because I have to take care of a lot of young siblings. However, I do have a Presidential Gold volunteer service award and I coach volleyball consistently. Do you think my GPA will ruin my chances of acceptance or will the rigor of my school / SAT score compensate? My dad is also an alumni: will that raise my chances of acceptance at all? Thanks!
