What are my chances of admission at these universities?

I will be applying in December(RD), i.e. 8 to 9 months from now. So I will have some more stuff to add, soon. But until now my information is:

Country: bangladesh(international aplicant)
Income: middle class(not possible to pay the whole tuition)
SAT 1: CR730, M740, W760
SAT 2: didn't sit for it yet. will probably get above 700 at least in two.
GCSE O Levels: 8A*(highest grade)
AS: going to sit for it in a few months. most likely grades: AAAB(stupid chem)
A2: next year.
Academic awards: national highest in French o levels, special achievement awards from school in physics, maths, economics.

Non academic: school community service club(founder, pres), school science club(high ranking officer), been a lead guitarist in a heavy metal rock band for 4 years, national math olympiad participant, high ranking officer in school debating society(champion in several tournaments), general member of a UN realated NGO, founder and president of a local NGO for eradicating illiteracy, Diploma from alliance francaise(youngest person to get a diploma from there), Trinity college award for Piano(up tp grade 3), school writer's club(gen sec), tutoring middle school children, massive soccer fanatic and former school team player.

possible future ecs: Summer internship at grameen bank, or an electronics company.(any one),Research work with physicist and high school teacher. National science olympiads.

quirks: Lego fan, always tinkering with electronics, have an economics blog.

so the universities are: 1) Columbia, 2)Harvard , 3) Caltech, 4)Carneggie Mellon 5) chicago, 6) Brown, 7) Harvey Mudd, 8) Cooper Union.
I know that there are too many here, and a lot of gibberish as well, but i wanted to get an idea about where i am now and how much i need to do, except of course my upcoming AS exams.

Anyone?Seriously?

thanks for chancing me!

it’s really good that you’re an international student, top universities are all about diversity. your SAT scores are good and are in the range for those schools. you have a good mix of EC’s and it’s really good that you started something on your own. i would suggest doing as many internships as possible, and the research is a nice touch. as long as you keep your grades up and get above 700 on the SAT IIs, i think you’re a good candidate for any of those schools.

@quakerhopeful

Thanks a lot. I was wondering if i have been aiming too high; maybe i still am, although your post reassures me quite a bit.
Research is not guaranteed yet although I will fight tooth and nail to get it, not just for the admission, but because i don’t want to miss out on the fun stuff (i know i can be geeky).

I completely agree with Quaker. You need good SAT II scores. Colleges love international students, so that works hugely in your favor. You need to keep up the EC’s and you have a fighting chance. Good luck :)

Chance me?

Here is the chance back

  1. Columbia
Honestly, it is a reach for anyone. Especially as an international, it would be even harder. I say a reach. 2)Harvard
    Same with Columbia
  2. Caltech
I think you would have a better chance for Caltech than you would for Columbia
    4)Carneggie Mellon
Depends on which department. But seems like you have a great shot.
  3. chicago
As an international, it would be a reach
  4. Brown
    Same
  5. Harvey Mudd
    In. Most likely
  6. Cooper Union
Very hard to get into. Reach

Good luck!

@dhs911230 thanks for chancing me.
I know these are all reaches, so i know that it would be very difficult for me to get in. given also that I am an international student, and have had almost no experience in international olympiads, it is fine with me that my chances are slim.
chicago & columbia are my top choices now…
thanks for the honest assessment. somehow it pumps me up more…:)

Columbia: high target/low reach
Caltech: medium reach
Harvard: low reach
Carnegie: in
Chicago: low target
Harvey: in
Cooper union: in
Brown: medium target

Oops cooper union I meant high target/low reach

I like the resume. I think you have a realistic chance at any school. If you write a strong emotional college essay (pertaining to hardship) then you could get in anywhere. The essay will be make or break for you.
