What are my chances of being accepted into UCLA/other UCs?

I am kind of a weird case. I will earn my GED instead of a high school diploma. In high school I maintained a 3.5 unweighted, and about a 4.1 weighted GPA. I have taken the ACT twice, with my current score being a 29. I have another ACT scheduled for this September in hopes of raising this even more. I took almost all Honors classes, but after my freshman year I moved to a school which offered no APs, so I was unable to take any.

In high school I was involved with choir, drama, International Thespian Society, varsity girls golf, and did a lot of tutoring for free. I also volunteer at a local elementary school helping out teachers and students. I work at a local restaurant where I hostess and am in charge of media for the business.

I obviously will be applying to plenty of safeties, but the UCs, especially UCLA, are my dream school(s). As an out-of-state student with stats and ECs like mine, what do you think my chances would be?

You need to calculate your UC GPA using only AP/IB courses for the extra honors points in the a-g courses:

As an OOS applicant, your Honors classes will not qualify for the extra honors points. If you were unable to take any AP classes this will impact your UC GPA. You will need to have your GC address that AP’s were not available.

Minimum UC GPA required for OOS applicants for the UC’s is a 3.4. Average UC GPA for UCLA this past admission cycle was 4.18 and unweighted around a 3.89 with an average ACT of 31. You unweighted GPA looks low.

You also need to make sure you fulfill all the a-g course requirements for the UC’s or your application will not be considered.

Are you able to afford the costs of the UC’s at $55K/year with little or no financial aid?

I would say that UCLA is a Reach but if it is your “dream school” apply and see what happens.

What’s your UC GPA?
